I'm looking to purchase a Glock 22. I have read here that people like the RTF2 frame but I also read that Gen 4 in .40 is the way to go.

I have several other Glocks 17,19,26 and 27 so I'm no stranger to them but they are all Gen 3.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Most people seem to like the .40S&W Gen 4 for the new recoil system.
You may want to consider buying an RTF 2 & installing a Gen 4 recoil system.

Looking back, I am not sure if that will work actually.
Maybe someone can advise.

That won't work. The end of the recoil spring assembly is bigger on Gen 4s.

Go with the Gen 4 - especially if you plan to run with a light. Glock seems to have gotten it right with the Gen 4 G22. It is the 9mm that have taken the reliability hit, and Glock should have left their recoil system alone for the model 17 and 19.

I just talked to an officer tonight and he said they realy like the gen four in .40. For me im still on the fence i would prefer the rtf but i also like the 17. so for me its still gen three. Goodluck

i like the rtf over the gen 4 but i like a rough texture on my guns. stippling is about the same feel. both are great options, but i chose the rtf, just for the more aggressive feel. the rtf also doesnt have the cutout for the non drop free mags, which annoys me.

The Gen4 seems to have fixed all the issues the earlier generation Glocks had in .40. If I were in the market for a .40 caliber Glock I would stick to a Gen4.

Go with the Gen 4. I had the G22 RTF2 but I got rid of it. nothing wrong with it though. except the Gen 4 is just better IMHO.. I have a Glock 17 Gen 4 now and it's been 100% reliable even with the first batch of recoil spring that they put in it.. It's even more better with the "02" recoil spring. Called Glock and they sent me with the updated "02" spring

I would go with the Gen 4 G22. Mine is just superb, I like everything about it, though you'll likely not require the grip inserts, the reduction itself being the most important upgrade for most shooters in my opinion.

I'm a huge gen 4 fan.... but who knows how much longer the rtf2's will be available. So I'd say get an rtf2 while it's still on the market, then save up for a gen 4. :D If that's not a factor for you, go with the gen 4. I have a 17 and a 19 that have both been absolutely superb.

If you want your G22 to work with 100% reliability, especially with a light attached, then do NOT get a 3rd gen G22--the 4th gen G22 is superior. In 9 mm, the 3rd gen Glocks still have a substantial edge in reliability.

I'd also go with the Gen. 4. I still don't get all the drama over the Gen. 4 9's. Mine run fine.

We have four here that have run flawlessly through 11.5K rds of mostly 115 gr fmj of various brands. It may just be this design was just pushing the envelope of spring weight, slide velocity etc for std pressure and below 9mm ammo, so common. Tolerance stack and all that stuff.

From a short 50 rds through a Gen 4 G23 - I consider that one sweet platform for the .40 though.

+1 for the gen 4, i bought a new one about 2 months ago and haven't had any problems with it

I have both. The RTF2 with "fish gills" and GEN 4 G-22. I shot the RTF2 in GSSF in 2009 and the GEN 4 in 2010. The Gen 4 has less recoil and has been 100% even with a Surefire X-300 attached. I'm probably in the minority but I wish the GEN 4 had the rougher texture of the RTF2.
