View Full Version : Marlin with a lot of love
We just got this old gun ready for delivery, and I thought I would let you take a look.

It started out life as a 24 inch barrel Marlin 1895 from about 1973.
The gun came out nice and the real story is that I love the lever guns and just like to do the work.

What do you guys think of the gun?
Nice!
What rear sight did you use on it?
Is that the factory front or a different one?
For whatever reason I have been interested in Marlin 45-70s lately.

The sights are XS but we silver solider them on and use the protective wings on the rear sight.
We do a lot of lever guns and I love the 45/70 the most of all.

Beautiful as always Mr. Smith

Thanks
That's some really nice work. What's the barrel length now? You said it started as a 24" so Im assuming it got changed.

I cut it to 16.5 it makes for one short hard hitting gun.

Awesome guide gun. I got one that I'd love to have worked over. Maybe someday when I have the funds. What finish is on that gun, matte blue or a black polymer finish?

The finish is 2400 gun blue Teflon and we would love to help you with your project.
This type of project is not a lot of money.
I'd love to see the fireball when someone drops the hammer on that thing at dusk.
:D
Lookin' good Joe!

That is filling me with lust. I like the matte or oiled (?) furniture and bet it looks even better in person. Beautiful work as always.

Still on my "to-do" list, albeit cut down to minimum legal overall length (not just barrel length).

Nice update on a classic. Would be real handy to carry around in the backwoods.

Pretty much my reaction every time I talk to him.
I used to have a file set aside for disposable income. It is now just titled "Money for Joe for something or another"
Not too bad till you use.

Sweet mother of pearl! My collar bone just cracked from reading the specs on the page.
I just got my next gun in for a project.
If anybody wants to get a nice straight stock Marlin 1895 in 45/70 with no cross-bolt safety.
The gun is from1974. It is in good shape, and about to go under the knife. It is going to be one for the record books.
I spend lots of time getting the old guns with no cross bolt safety.
This gun is a real find for me.
You can make it yours if you would like the project.
Just give me a call or e-mail.
