I'm looking for an M4 type mag pouch that has MOLLE webbing on the front but doesn't use bungees for retention.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

EssTac Wedges with Kydex Wedge Inserts?

Available in single shingles, double and triple wide flavors through SKDtac.com. You can also find single Kydex Wedge Inserts there. I know at least one two-deep/stacked wedge has been made by EssTac if you're looking for a way to carry more mags than just a bunch of single shingles, and if you email Stu at EssTac, (stu@esstac.com), double Kydex Wedge Inserts are available for those pouches as well. Pics of the two-deep/stacked/whatever and in-depth discussion: http://paxgear.blogspot.com/2011/02/esstac-double-kywis.html

Both the single and double KYWIs offer their user a stupid fast draw and excellent retention. I highly recommend them. You will be very pleased. They also stiffen the front of the pouch, (and the MOLLE platform there), so that any pouches mounted to the pouch's front wont swing around toooo much.

Not exactly what you are looking for but is something I can recommend from my own experience and is well recommended by many.

US Grunt Gear

Don't own any of it, but I have looked at it, and I can tell you now that is pretty much exactly what you want.

Another option is the Emdom IAP. Designed by one of the mods here and also a guy with all the coolest gear, Military Morons, also known as MM, it was designed to do exactly what you had in mind. It's made in Hong Kong however...

Thanks. I was looking at these on SKD but the description confused me. So the bungees can be pulled out of the esstac pouched and then the wedge inserts just slide in? This would be just what I'm looking for.

The US Grunt Gear M4 mag pouches are really nice and do exactly what you are describing. I ran them during a three day pistol/carbine class and they worked very well. Nothing ever fell out while running, shooting urban prone, and under obstacles.
