I have a reproduction Colt 3rd Model Dragoon .44 revolver back home. I am thinking about getting a pair of the 1860 Army Colts when I get back.

Anyone else here own percussion revolvers?

Probably won't get many responses for percussion firearms this site

Well you will get a response from me. :D I have two reproduction 1858 Remingtons (Italian made) that I use for Cowboy Action shooting. In fact I will be shooting tomorow.

My first pistol was a no-brand Italian made .36 Colt. Every once in a while I'll drag it out to the range to make smoke and bother some of the jerk offs at my club that try up the pistol range.

I've got two .36s, both Italian copies. First a 1851 Navy with square trigger guard and a 1862 Pocket Police. I did melt down some lead for balls just before I deployed. Looking forward to shooting them again this summer.

I have been wanting a pair of 1860's myself. Lately I have been considering a cartridge conversion in 38 special.

Too many westerns have warped my brain and made their mark...

I want a couple of these:

Have had a long succession of them; bought my first one (a rough '51 Navy Colt) for $35 in an off-campus gunshop in 1963. Kept it in my dorm room. Still have it.

The ROAs are the best, but I'm quite fond of a Uberti '61 Navy. When my arm surgery heals up and spring comes I'm looking forward to breaking it out.

The .38 Special evolved from the .36 Navy Colt percussion revolver.

The .38 Short Colt was developed for the cartridge conversion .36 Navy Colts, then it was improved by making it longer as the .38 Long Colt. The .38 Long Colt cartridge was a notorious failure in the Philippines, so manufacturers improved it by making it longer for heavier charge and heavier bullet as the .38 Special. Then came the .357 Magnum.

IMO, The .38 Special really should be called the .36 Special.

Pshh, you young'uns and your fancy 6 shot ree-volvers. Back in my day we didn't use no sissy .36 caliber ball unless you were huntin' squirrels! Real menfolk used a MAN'S gun back then! http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_92_187_188&products_id=9952 .69 caliber or go home! Why do you need 6 shots fer anyhoo? Fire off one of these babies, and even if you don't hit 'em, the sound of that hammer goin' back will scare him away. Fire one and load one, how much simpler can you get? If'n it t'were good enough for my daddy and his daddy, then it's good enough fer me. Techno-logical in-novation; bunch o' mumbo jumbo. :p

Sorry, you can just ban me now for that. :D
All this talk of percussion cap weapons made me think of how fudd-like the thinking is around were I live. Oh, and I would love to have a steel Uberti remake of an 1858. ;)

Not only that but I used that old Navy as a prop in a speech class once.

Only in retrospect have I realized that I was a victim of 'oppositional defiant disorder'. Some of the stuff done in those far-off days would amaze you.

Age seems to aggravate the condition.

Wow, Tuck. That is beautiful!!

Thank you. Maybe one of these days I'll get it a partner, and a proper leather gunbelt for when I'm feeling like reenacting a Civil War battle.

I have a repro 1858 Remington around here somewhere. I think I have shot it twice since I have owned it. They are suprisingly accurate.
