Is it "bad" to shoot 55gr with 1:7 barrel?

My new-to-me M4 has a 14.5" barrel with 1:7 twist.. I'm being suggested to only shoot heavier rounds and not the lighter 55gr..... they made it sounded like it a cardinal rule :(

Is it because I will lose accuracy/consistency? Is there any safety reason in it? BTW, as for application for this rfile, it is not "target shoot" for accuracy, mostly for plinking within 100 yd.

No cardinal rule there. 55 grain is just fine in a 1:7. The advantage of the 1:7 is that you CAN shoot heavier loads if you want/need to, but you certainly don't have to. Whoever told you that is full of it.

There is no safety issue shooting 55gr bullets out of a 1:7" barrel. Go for it.

The faster twist rate has more to do with the overall length of the bullet and not the weight. 77grn bullets are long.

"Safety" is not an issue, and accuracy will be fine. Most memebers here shoot 55grn rounds out of thier 1/7 barrels for the majority of thier training because it's cheap.

Go buy a case of XM193 and enjoy.
