Can anyone recommend a source for training plates for the SKD PIG carrier?

Front, back and side plates if possible. Doesn't need to be anything super high speed. The goal being to up the training intensity and realism for carbine class, rucks and whatever.

Thanks

If you are going to carry the weight of a plate carrier and plates, why not put plates in it?

Some are concerned with damaging the plates during the training event. Not an issue if your plates are issued; but certainly one that I understand if they (the plates) are private purchase.

Tyr Tactical has front and back plates designed just for that, check their website under the "Armor" section.

Correct. The Army doesn't provide my unit with IOTV's for training. Many soldiers bring their own, however the fact that you forked out thousand dollars in kit is distracting when you train.

I would rather leave real armor home and roll with something cheaper for training purposes so it if gets torn up, I don't lose any sleep over it.

Just saw these
http://patriots-choice.com/index.htm/Our_Products.html

They sell primarily on Ebay, $20 for a pair

You might also want to consider steel level III plates. They'll give weight and rigidity to the plate carrier and they're quite durable. They're generally a lot cheaper than ceramic or poly plate options, and they actually have significant protective value if you ever needed to use them. Steel will be closer to the weight of SAPI plates than the PVC airsoft units on ebay and elsewhere, albeit at a significantly greater price.

These guys offer front/back steel and training plates.

It looks like their training plates are 10x12 rectangular – might be a fit issue with the PIG.

Or you might want to consider something like: http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/IBAIA0035B.aspx

As for steel side plates – these are the only ones I was aware of.

They also appear to offer front/back plates.

NB: I've never bought anything from these vendors.

There are a lot of vendors that will sell armor to members of the armed forces – they’ll require a scan of your military ID.

Just some quick thoughts - HTH.

Steel is where it's at if you want to get in shape/stay in shape and not worry about damaging a plate in training. I run a set of 3A stand alone steel plates (front and back only) in my carrier during classes, which equates to about 9 lbs extra over my ESAPI's. That equals the weight of the side plates (which I don't run normally anyway). They are a bit thinner, so things lay/sit a bit different but not hugely so. Best of all, they're cheap (~$200 for the pair) and actually provide protection if something unplanned occurs.

FYI- I've been running the PVC plates I linked during training. They are a tad thicker but similar in weight. Fit into my HSGI carrier with no problems. Pretty good for ~$30 after shipping.

Outstanding, everyone.

Thanks for the sources. Keep 'em coming if you find anymore.

Did not want to start a new thread.

I got a JPC in today and need some large sapi training plates. I checked a few of the old links and either they do not offer large plates, or nothing at all. Are there any sources you guys know of that are current?

How about the Team Wendy training plates?

aren't they ESAPI?

aren't they ESAPI?

Yes, but dimensionally they should be very close if not identical. Because we are talking training plates I assumed you weren't too concerned with protection from various threats when using these plates!

Very true, just from looking at the JPC the dimensions seem a little tight, I guess I can send them an email and see what they say

sapi plates is ~10x13 for large

wendys might be a little small, I went ahead and emailed them about getting something closer to my spec.

I am going with warrior trail, they make large esapis and if for some reason they dont work, he will swap them out for mediums at no charge.

Quick question, considering the price of the warrior plates why not just run steel? Atleast with the latter you still have the benefit of ballistic protection and do so with a realistic weight.

I'm not sure if that would be cheaper, maybe I should give bulletproof me a call and see if they have any steel that will fit a sapi pocket. If you know of any sources that will sell that plate to a civilian let me know.

I have no experience with these but they seem to have a pretty good following from what I gather. I've been meaning to order a set to have for training, just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe not cheaper your right but maybe more cost effective since your getting something with some actual utility. Not just mass.

Wow that has my interest peaked, I think the 10x12 will fit just fine in my crye jpc. I will order a pair next week and let you know what I think when they get in.
