View Full Version : Fake or genuine?
So I bought a used aimpoint comp ml2 model # 10338 and while zeroing it yesterday, i noticed the dot seemed to flicker, or fade in and out. now im thinkin its just a old battery, but im wondering if anyone else had had this problem before? not sure if this is in the right place or not http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/198054_10150431792780554_729225553_17545277_832957_n.jpg
Title changed to clarify what is the REAL problem, fake Aimpoint....Robb Jensen
Try the battery first and see if that fixes the problem. Are you sure its a legit copy?
Is the battery cap on tight?
FWIW, my oldie ML2 will work for a few minutes with a new battery then fades to very dim. It's beyond repair as far as I know.

Ml2's are not supposed to have bright white lettering like that.
They have a subdued grey/black Aimpoint logo...

Contact Aimpoint and check the serial number. It may be Chicom knock off.
the new ml2's have subdued lettering, this one appears legit down to the aimpoint stamped flip covers. ill call and check the serial. so far i like it there. i also have it over the seam of my mono rail. works good except for the the fading dot. :( oh and my camera is junk :l

That looks to be a counterfeit IMO. Does the knob spin continuously back to off? Can You post a pic of the lens cover?
I think you may have purchased a fake...
upon further investigation, it appears that the (batteries) are to fault. they are not even a single cell. they are 2 button cells that look to have been picked up at walmart as a stand in. 1/3N lithium batteries enroute. aimpoint closes at 5pm EST so i will call tomorrow. however im sure now that it was a power problem and not a bogus dot sight. the covers are stamped, not printed. everything appears legit. (im not allowed to keep my weapons in the house, therefore i posted then investigated :l

Does the knob continuously spin to off?
no, knob is almost difficult to turn. definitely locks in 1-5 and 0

But does it stop? or keep spinning around to off?
it most definitely stops.
True AimPoints use just ONE CR1/3N. So if you have two batteries in there, then it is a fake.

Next question is, did that mount come with the Aimpoint and did you buy the Aimpoint off of EGAY?

The seller may have stuffed a pair of SR44s in there, I've had to do the same with my Leica M6 on occasion when the 1/3Ns were hard to find.

I am not trying to be rude, but it looks like a fake to me. I recently bought a fake, and it took me 2 hours to confirm it was a fake. Luckily it was from a friend and he refunded me immediately. I didnt question it because it was from a friend. I was almost out $300.
The mount looks fake, and so does the optic. I hope You are not out too much money.

Ice, Man!...what's up with that?
;)
.
The mount looks like a primary arms (china) mount, and the lettering looks like a flag. Call Aimpoint ASAP.

From the Aimpoint website, some helpful info to determine counterfeits. http://www.aimpoint.com/products/counterfeitscopies/
Can you post a photo of windage/elevation turrets with caps removed?
