Loads tested
77 grain Scenar bullets by Lapua loaded with Rem 7 ½ match primers and the following powder charges.
21.8 grains of N135 and 24 grains of N140
77 grain Sierra Match King bullets loaded with Rem 7 ½ primers and 24.1 grains of N140
69 grain Sierra Match Kings loaded with CCI 400 primers with 25.3 grains of RE15.
55 grain Hornady V Match bullets loaded with CCI 400 primers and 25.5 grains of H335.

Larue

I went to the range to test a few loads in two of my rifles. I had been using Sierra 77 grain bullets for my long range needs but a friend recommended Lapua 77 grain Scenar bullets. They have a better ballistic coefficient and they cost over twice as much. The Scenar’s shot well in my Larue but no better than Sierra bullets have for me in the past at 100 yards.

Both were respectable but in the past my bests with the Sierra bullets was just a bit better at .64.
I also tried some 69 grains Sierra bullets and with Reloader 15 they were a disappointment to me.

The following day I tested these loads briefly at the Range in Kenai at 200 yards. I did not record their groups but they did about the same as the Sierra bullets I am using to using. Here are some groups fired with the Larue at 400 and 500 yards using the 77 grain Sierra load with 24.1 grains of N140.

Conclusion
For my needs the Lapua bullets were overpriced for performance I was getting from Sierra bullets.

NOVESKE Rogue Hunter Testing.
On 3-16-11 I also shot my Rogue hunter with some 55 grain Hornady V match bullets. My rifle was sighted in at 200 yards using 77 grain Sierra’s at 2600 fps. These 55 grain bullets hit 4.5 inches low but they shot fairly well.

Ignore the tape and what not I recycled this target.
On 3-17-11 I went to Kenai and I shot my Rogue hunter with 77 grain Sierra’s (24.1 grains of N140) at 200, 300,400 and 500 yards. At 500 yards my groups opened up because I had to hold between two marks on my reticles bullet drop compensator. So I was not able to be as consistent. Below are the pics.

My friend bought a Rogue Hunter upper and I assembled the lower for him. It’s the same rifle as mine pretty much except for the optic and stock.

Strangely the Elcan’s bullet drop compensator reticle worked great. We ended up having to have it zeroed ½ and inch high at 100 yards and it was on at 200, 300, 400 and 500 yards. He shot a bit better than me at 500 yards keeping all of his shots in the black. Wish we would have saved his pictures.

We did notice a slight shift in the poi with his spectar when switching from 4x to 1x. We zeroed the rifle on 4x and it shot 2 inches high and 2 inches to the right on 1x.
