Latest issue of American Rifleman has the Colt 7.62 rifle that accepts both 5.56 and 7.62 upper (SP901?) as being unveiled at NRA meetings in April.

Are they releasing or just displaying? Kinda got my hopes up a bit. WHole blurb is very short on details.

I've been patiently awaiting this as well, but there hasn't been much talk about the SP901 in over a month. It looks like a decent piece, and I think it's mid length. If you download Colts 2011 catalog it has the full specs, but one thing I noticed that I hope is wrong is the 1/12 twist. I wish they would start talking price soon.

It would be nice if they had just the 7.62 version, because I don't see a huge advantage in being modular...

Anybody know what magazine configuration the 7.62 model is supposed to accept? I didn’t see it in the catalog. MagPul 20LR 7.62 magazine?

From the videos, and pictures that I've seen it does take the Magpul 20LR but your right it's not in the catalog. I don't know if you've seen the video I think it was on youtube of the guy shooting it on FA, but he had a 20LR in it.

When I called Colt CS a few weeks back I was give 2nd-3rd quarter 2011 as a timeframe. A price had not been set yet when I called (beginning of March). It is configured for the SR-25 pattern so that also includes the Magpul 20 rd.

Hopefully we will get more info soon.

What's so wrong with a 1/12 twist for a combat rifle?

1/12 SCAR Heavy
1/12 M14
1/12 M40 series of rifles
1/11.25 Larue OBR
1/11.25 M24 Rifle
1/11 GA Precision GAP-10
1/10 LMT MWS

It's not 1/7 like an M4! :p

Since the best ammo for this kind of rifle is 150-165 grains, it is probably ok. I would have picked 1/10 for a semi and 1/8 for a bolt gun, but that is just me. 1/8 is the new 1/10.

It is said that the .25 was because that is the only gear Mike Rock had for his machine.

Those Pratt & Whitney twin spindle hydraulic rifling machines that Mike uses are pure gold as far as I'm concerned.

Any news on the SP901 or CM901? I'm curious about release dates and/or pricing.

I would particularly like to know if they plan to offer the 13" model as a semi-auto factory SBR...

Thanks!

M4 is not a Battle rifle.
1:12 works best with most 7.62 x 51.

1/12 works to a thousand with 175s so I don't see an issue.

According to the catalog, it's a 16" heavy barrel, with a weight of 9.4 lbs.

Arrrghhhh...

Called Colt today; same old news: no MSRP, and the release has been pushed back towards the end of summer.

If that... I just hope it makes it the shelf at decent weight and price sometime in the not too distant future. But it's Colt, so we'll be lucky if we get 1 of those 3. In the mean time I'll enjoy my LE6920...

I'm going to stick with my MWS's with DPMS LR308's for backup for now. If Colt comes out with the 308, I may pick one up to play with. But in the end, I think MWS is the cat's roar!
