I just moved into a new house and I have a small room in the basement under our "morning room" thats 15'3"x9'8". Since I used to do masonry work back in the day I was going to wall it off with 6 inch block and put a simple steel door with a padlock. I'm calling this my "workshop" but it will most likely be just a gun room.

My main problem is that there is a basement window in this room as well and I was thinking about how I could prevent acess to my room through this window while still allowing escape in case of emergency.

I have found a sort of cage that goes over the window which blocks entry and I think since it says they are "hinged" that means you can open and close them at will. Here's the link http://www.simsupply.com/Items/206002S

I was also thinking about some sort of gun rack system either made of wood or just hooks. I sort of had a vision of what you might see in the movies of a police armory or something of that nature. What do you guys think. Any advice and suggestions are most welcome thank you.

Yeah, thats pretty much what I had imagined. They didn't have a price for those products unfortunately.

OK, here's a cheap way out for long gun vertical storage. 3/4" x 8" x (whatever length you want) plywood or solid material. Drill 3" holes lengthwise down the center about 5-6" apart, rip down the length in the center to create 2 pieces. Glue and screw a support 1" X 4" to the closed side of each to create a wall mounting board. Fasten to the wall at some appropriate height. 550 cord on the open side to prevent anything from falling forward. Fast, inexpensive, works, easily replaced later on. A much smaller version works for the those cleaning rods also, just scale everything way down. Don't forget to cover the window glass with some translucent material so you get some light in but can't see in :cray: Check the humidity levels in the room, some ventilation might be needed. Sounds like you got a good safe room in the making.
