View Full Version : Noveske 16" Light Recce, BASIC
any one here shot this rifle? just picked one up today love the simple look...looking for some input on do's and donts and pros and cons.
DON'T leave it in your safe, DO shoot the heck out of it...Noveskes are built to be pretty, yet love to be run hard.
no worries she wont be a safe queen...
+1
Shoot the hell out of it.
Oh, and buy the big bottles of this:

story behind this is i first went with a n4 lower and a rock river arms NM A2 upper, since i already have a bolt action i figured i'd go for a mid range rifle, got a daniel defense M4 V1 pick up day came i switch to a Noveske recce basic...not saying the others are crap but i went with accurate, good barrel kinda a combo of the first two...
but yes range trip saturday.....
Grant ( G&R) built me an N4 bbl'd upper that is the dog's bollocks. Mine seems to like to shoot really tiny groups, over long courses of fire. Good to go IMO.
Here is mine as she currently sits. Great rifle!!!!

Agreed on the Slip2000 EWL, hands down the best lube I've ever used. I can spend all day shooting my gun and it still is soaking wet as if I just applied the oil 30 seconds ago; great stuff.
As for the Noveske, you can't beat a Noveske barrel period. I have an N4 upper myself and I'm amazed how well it shoots and the groupings it can provide even after lots of shooting.
I have that rifle, although with the VIS upper. It works very well for me. I put a BattleComp on mine. Makes a pretty soft shooter even more controllable.

I just bought the N4 Recce Basic upper but I've yet to do anything with it than krylon it. It's totally fantastic. Accurate and reliable. I might float it this year.

+1 on the Magpul handguards, they are a huge improvement over the basics. I slapped a MOE stock on mine and it's a very well balanced rifle.

cant wait till the handguard gets here, nice to know it will turn out ok looking at your rifle V V what optics are you using and how do you like em....
I've got an Aimpoint PRO on it and so far it has been great. I was trying to stay with irons for as long as possible to prevent me from getting lazy, but when the PRO came out it was just too good a deal to pass up. And boy do I like having a RDS!

Great gun. I have the same one in FDE and absolutely love it.
I must say, I have always laughed a bit at the name though. N4 "Basic" What Noveske sells as a Basic Carbine comes with more features than most other guns do. I think of them as the Apple of the gun world. Sure you pay more. But you get a lot more. And they don't offer a "cheap" version.
I must say I really like the looks of the MOE handguards on it.

I am curious to see how they succeed in redefining the standard definition of "carbine".
Generally, concerning AR's, a Carbine is a gun with a "carbine length action". Noveske doesn't offer a "carbine length action" rifle anymore but now calls their N4 middies "carbines".
It is OK by me but I would hate to be a newbie trying to figure the carbine-, middie-, intermediate-, rifle- length stuff all out.
But maybe it's just me...
.
This one started life as a recce basic. Then I converted it myself into a recce not so basic.

As soon as I get my Colt to take over as my go to carbine, my N4 is going to look very similar to that.
does anyone know the current contour of the basic reccee/carbine? is it guvment or their improved under the handguards?

I know what you are getting at but... Carbine essentially means "short, light, rifle". Its an old word derived from French  and has been in common use much longer than the AR platform or its various gas systems.
Just sayin ;)
does anyone know the current contour of the basic reccee/carbine? is it guvment or there improved under the handguards?
