Just a sales gimmick, I know, but thumbs up to them nonetheless.

...the Radio Shack Super Store in Hamilton [MONTANA] has a very fine sign of the times outside its store.

It reads: "PROTECT YOURSELF WITH DISH NETWORK SIGN UP NOW GET FREE GUN." ... [Hi Point .380]

Also recall:

Max Motors in Clay County, Mo. Because, in August, is offering a free AK-47 with every vehicle sold.

But this part annoys me:

But somehow Dish Network is supposed to be a family-friendly value proposition. And to entice customers with guns seems not quite so family-friendly in an era in which people tend to misuse guns with such unfamily-friendly regularity.

.

IIRC, in the 70's-80's some bank in Colorado would give you a Weatherby Mark V if you deposited $2000 (or so) with them for 6-7 years. They had other guns, if you deposited more money.

That bank in Colorado was the earliest "give-aways" I remember.

Remember that well. Could also get one with a qualifying CD.

My father actually got something like 6 Weatherbys from banking with them. I'm gonna say it was about 1981.

Here's the Radio Shack story from one of our local papers:

Nothing really new but some of the remarks in the comment section are kind of amusing.

My favorite was the guy who wrote, "This should be illegal. I mean, do you know how many people die from Pizza Hut pizza every day in the US? Obesity kills!" (The Radio Shack owner had offered a $50 Pizza Hut gift certificate for those not interested in a gun or unable to pass the background check). Which does beg the question: Which is more deadly? A Kel-Tec .380 or fifty bucks worth of Pizza Hut pizza? :sarcastic:

Correct on the CD. Three different uncles received brand new .270 deer rifles that year. ;)
