You can be very confident with any FN product and this shotgun is no different. Well made, simple and functional.

The designs intent was to appeal to L.E. (possibly some .mil though I've never seen any in actual use) in that the shotgun uses AR style stock, pistol grip and front site. It was intended to shorten the functional training time by using AR features that most are already very familiar with and comfortable using.

Thank you for the reply... I saw one at my local gun shop for $700. Seems like an ok price. Should I go for it??? Thanks.

oh, by the way.. this will be my very first shotgun. Thanks again.

As far as the price, Impact Guns sells them for about $30 less and they aren't exactly the cheapesat place in town either.

That being said, you're not getting hosed at $700, especially if it's the model with the removable chokes.

Very solid shotgun that will give you years of service. Personally, I like it. I shoot AR's a lot and though I don't really require a shotgun to mirror the AR platform, it certainly does no harm either.

FN is on the short list of excellent firearms makers. Buy it with confidence if that's what you choose.

Has anyone actually fired one of these shotguns? The similarity to the AR-15 platform puts this weapon on my "someday" list, and I was wondering if it shoots as good as it looks.

What other shotguns would be on a short list of good shotguns to buy?

The Remington 870 Police Magnum, Express Magnum. There are also a lot of good used 870 Police Magnums and Wingmasters on the market. The Mossberg 590 is also a good shotgun and my second choice. They are all dead nuts reliable and get smoother with use.

Remington & Benelli.

I've got a 590, and it is a great shotgun. I especially like the safety on the back of the receiver and the way the bottom of the receiver is open (so Remington double-feeds are non-existent).

Nonetheless, that FN Tactical looks like it is a step up (although you could purchase two 590s for the price of one FN Tactical).

I like this one:
http://www.fnhusa.com/products/firearms/model.asp?fid=FNF005&gid=FNG002&mid=FNM0019 Which is essentially the same thing as the Winchester SX2.

Or the Benelli M2 Tactical w/ComforTech and ghost ring sights. Dave's Metal Works and a few others make mag extensions for them.

Here's the SRM Benelli mag extensions:

I think you'd be better off with a Remington 870 Police, honestly.

The FN's are over priced Winchester 1300's, and you can't actually use the iron sights effectively with the factory set up.

It is effectively a Winchester 1300 with a collapsible stock and side saddle. I have a 1300 I paid $275 NIB: w/ truglo front sight, pistol & full stock incl. - and they are identical. I would rank the design as very reliable, no better (worse) than others, I have no issues with the sighting system and my is now relegated to trunk duty as a cheap street sweeper, just in case I need it.

Personaly, I like the Rem 870 and Mossberg 5xx more, but the price was right - you'd pay $100+ more for the Rem/Moss equivs.

I do not believe that the AR stock and $20 side saddle, justify the extra $350 mark-up...if you want to spend that kind of cash, there are many thers that deserve it.

The factory sights are definitely unusable as-is - the sightline is way too low. I removed the front sight on mine and just use the rear as an emergency ghost ring. I may eventually just have the rear sight milled off. The red dot is an Aimpoint knockoff, which so far has not had any problems (70+ rounds of 00 buckshot, 100+ rounds of birdshot), but typically you get what you pay for.

Other than the fixed sights, the shotgun is quite good. It is very reliable, the action is smooth and fast, and recoil is not bad at all. I like the straightline stock setup and the pistol grip.

I paid around $500 for mine a couple of years back. For $700, I'd get a 1300 and a Mesa Tactical AR stock adapter if you want the look of the TPS.

Anyway, FWIW here's mine:
