ordered one of these from AIM Surplus with my C&R. Anyone have one of these? I cant seem to find extra mags for these.

I just looked at Numrich, they don't list any mags in stock.

You might want to call up SARCO in NJ.

Those Model B's saw lots of service in several nation's militaries, including the South African Bush Wars.

How are the STAR pistols in general? I see them every so often for decent prices.

Overall decent for the time period they saw active service, a much less expensive alternative to a Walther, FN, or Colt of the time.

Most of them won't have an inertial firing pin, so don't leave a round chambered.

The Star PD was one of the first compact .45 ACP pistols available in the late 70's and early 80's, and enjoyed popularity among the switched on shooters of the time.

More modern Star designs like the Model 28 and 30 were attempts to compete in the Wundernine market of the 80's. They were reliable, but bulky.

Star went out of business a few years ago, so parts and magazines are hard to come across.

Stars, along with most other Spanish autos, have somewhat soft steel. This should be no problem for a normal amount of shooting.

One of the very best features found in these, in my opinion, is the safety. It actually cams the hammer slightly back when engaged so that it is held completely off the sear by a solid block of steel.

What would you consider a "normal amount of shooting?" Something along the lines of just plinking every now and then?

On a side note, does anyone know if 9mm M1911 mags would work in one of these, or are they a completely different style/angle? :o

Not the same kind of shooting evolutions you'd put a Glock 17 through.

Until very recently, "training" and qualifications for most militaries and police agencies around the world was minimal, especially for a handgun.

No, 9mm Gov't Model magazines are completely different.

Sadly, none of that is too surprising.

Well, I guess one of the good things (in a manner of speaking) about having only 1 magazine is that you won't likely wear out your pistol when you get it (with the soft steel issue and such). Though your thumbs may hate you after a while. :jester:
