View Full Version : Pressure/Temperature of 556 Nato?
I work as a Valve Automation Engineer in critical process applications. Mostly, they are high pressure/temp steam applications for Power Plants. As such, I'm beginning to see and understand more crossovers between the same materials being used for valves as are used in firearms. As such, I wanted to see where the P/T of 556 Nato would fall in terms of the ANSI ratings of various materials.
Thanks in adavnce!
I did a quick search for chamber pressure and found this thread started by Molon: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=55149
One of the graphs puts peak pressure of M193 in a 5.56 chamber at 50,000PSI
Here are some specs of AISI 4150 Steel. Although The AISI specs may be different than MIL B-11595E, the are in the same ball park.
