The Daniel Defense MFR 12.0 is a 12" CNC Machined Modular Free Float Handguard. It is specifically designed to adequately cover a low profile gas block on a carbine or mid-length gas system barrel. The MFR 12.0 has been engineered to provide each shooter with the ultimate in modular adaptability. Should the shooter desire, the tube can be run “slick” with an unitterupted top rail that runs the length of the tube. In addition, the installation of Modular Picatinny Rails is accomplished with little effort. This allows you to have rails anywhere you need them and nowhere you don’t. The slim profile of the MFR 12.0 keeps the shooter’s support hand close to the bore which aids in firearm manipulation, and the design and construction allow for the attachment of Picatinny Rail Sections at standard 90 degree or offset angles.

Joe,

Would this rail be appropriate for a rifle length gas system? I'm considering using this on my SDM-R inspired build.

Thank you.

The MFR 12.0 is actually a little too short for a rifle lenght gas system. It will work but you'd end up with about 1/4" of your gas tube exposed.

Will the MFR be available in 14" in the future?

We (Va Arms) would be interested in some of those too!

A couple of questions:

When will 12" MFRs be available again? I have a 9" and want a 12.

Also, will extended lengths ever be made? I'm not the only one interested!

Shoot me an email for availability on the 12.0. We currently do not have plans for an extended length.

I am new to this forum and just saw this thread. I ordered a rifle from your site with this rail and was wondering if it was supposed to come with the tools to take off the rail ?

All you need to remove the rail system is a 5/64" allen wrench to remove the 4 set screws. This will allow you to completely remove the rail system with the exception of the barrel nut. If you need to remove the barrel nut for whatever reason, the wrenchs are available for purchase https://danieldefense.com/components-parts/tools/wrench-omega-x-modular-float-rail.html

Remember to apply a thread locking agent to the set screws when you re-assemble the rail.
