Digital Round Counter

[Heartbreaker]

Just saw this thing today for the first time, the new version looks pretty streamlined and seems to function quite well. Can you see this on one of your rifles some time in the future or do you look at it more as a toy?

I cannot see it on one of my weapons, it appears to be too large.

However, I can envision a future miniature version on a weapon of mine; something about the size of a beer bottle cap.

The opposite has been done with a microchip and is very small (like the size of a large battery cell and goes in the pistol grip). What I mean by, 'opposite' is that it counts total rounds fired. Scan the chip, and you know the round count.

For me? I just keep a logbook. However, for unit or department armorers, it would allow them to be far more proactive about parts replacement.

"Rifle 1234 has XYZ rounds through it now. Time to change out the ABCD"

Been a while since I've watched that movie, but IIRC it's referred to as firing caseless ammunition. With rectangular caseless rounds like what was intended for the G11, you could probably fit 40 or so in a magazine roughly the size of a 30rd 5.56 mag.

In regard to the OP, I don't see how it's a significant enough improvement over the windowed PMag or translucent mags like Lancers to justify the added cost and complexity.

The first problem is I wouldn't have something with a red light shining on my weapon. The second problem is I don't really know what I'd need it for. The third problem is that the same thing can be accomplished simply be having a clear mag body or window.

That said it looks like he did a good job and props for trying something new. Maybe someone will come up with a good reason for using this thing.
