I am changing out the rail on my Duty AR to a Lite rail, either a 9.5 FSP or a 12.0 FSP. I would much rather go with the 9.5 FSP for the weight savings. My concern with the 9.5 is that I want to mount my scout light on a Gear Sector offset mount at the most forward point at the 3 o clock position. I am not sure if I will be able to mount it there since the rail sections have cut outs there. Anyone mounted a light there on their 9.5 FSPs?

A buddy of mine has the M4 9.5 rail and he runs his TLR-1 on the very end at L39. From looking at pictures online it looks like you lose L/R 33, 34, 37, and 38.

i have Vltor mount on the most forward rail section.

There is a large gap for the bayonet lug pin, so you're stuck at that position (not that it's bad).

gear sector, [I'm Assuming] would work just as well as my vltor.

Here's a pic of my DD9.5 FSP with a GS 6P mount

It goes on just fine. I think the 9.5 FSP is a great choice. The extra rail space is perfect for adding a light, and allows for a more aggressive grip.

It'll work:

It's a 12 FSPM rail...but same mounting. IMO the real advantage of the 12FSP rail is to mount a pistol light at 12 O' clock...

The cut-outs do limit options, but not too bad.

As an aside...if your budget can handle it...the x300 is a sweet light and would be great on a 12 FSP rail for patrol use.

Thanks for all the advice, I will be going with the 9.5 then. I have one last thing on my mind. How do you guys clean your barrel under the rail? Its not like I will be crawling in sand or anything but I do expect it to get some what dirty under there occational while at range classes.

I keep hearing people talk about cleaning their barrels?
I have never once cleaned the outside of my barrel.
But I rarely clean the inside either...

I have only had to clean it twice in the last 2 years I have been carrying it. First time was after a long class were a bunch of dirt and sand got all over the barrel. Second time was after I got the rifle soaked in water, so I cleaned it and coated it in lube for good measure. This was easy to do since the rail I have is a two piece ARMS #40 MCV. But with the lite rails this becomes a bit tough.

Hose it down in the yard and blow out the water with some compressed air.

I was going to get the 9.5FSP for my work gun. I was going past the factory and stopped in. After looking at both the 9.5 and the 12 I ended up getting the 12. The price difference is not really that much more. The weight isn't much more either. I do like running my light in the 6 o clock position and the end of the gun. The only pain was putting it on the gun.
