Who makes the absolutely lowest 30mm picatinny scope rings? I want to try to get my Aimpoint C3 even lower on my AK (w/Ultimak mount) than the stock C3 mount.

I have one of these on order to replace the Aimpoint X-ring (low) on my modified BP-02/Aimpoint combo;

http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=17463&st=817-000-003&s=30128

It's due to arrive on Wednesday - I will post some measurment to confirm how much lower it is. It will at least be cleaner looking without the thumbscrew.

The 10818 ring from Aimpoint is the lowest (and cheapest).

The Springfield Armory ring from Brownell's on the left; the Aimpoint 10818 (which I am currently using) on the right. Though it's hard to tell from the photos, it does look like the SA ring will sit lower - I will know for sure this week when it arrives and will post some actual measurments;

But as Grant stated, if you need a QD type ring - which would make sense in your application - the Aimpoint is still the lowest I have found too.

How much are they and do you have them in stock?

ETA: The SA mount pictured above appears identical to the free mount that used to be furnished with CompM/CompM-XD Aimpoint. It sits higher than the 1018 ring. If you want one, i can send you one for free.

According to those who have used this ring (see this thread (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=343872)), it is indeed lower than the Aimpoint ring. I guess I will know for sure when it arrives. I will be sure to take pics and measurements of the scope height above the rail with both rings, for our collective edification.

I have a 10818 that you can have for $20 shipped...I paid $ 25.20 from Ultimak

http://www.ultimak.com/BuyOptic.htm (scroll down)

It has been installed once...my SPOT sat too short on ther ultimak rail

Pulled it right back off and set it on the shelf

The 10818 mount (the orig. one) came free with the Comp M's. Because they were junk, Aimpoint changed them to what you see now. This is the lowest mount that Aimpoint makes.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think that the S.A. ring is junk?

I can see the marketing advantage of supplying a ring with "quick-detach" capability, but for my application (and perhaps for others as well) QD is a non-issue.

Well mainly because there are cheap.

Aimpoint stopped including this ring with their Military Aimpoints as no one ever used it. There is no QD and or repeat zero capability, and the screws have a bad habit of backing out.

Ah, OK - thanks! If after mounting the ring it looks like it will meet my needs, I will be sure to Loctite the screws.

Photo of my application below. Since the BP-02 mount itself is QD to the AK receiver, all I'm looking to do is get the Aimpoint down as close to the rail as possible.

OK, here is the definitive answer as to which ring is lower - the S.A. ring is lower than the Aimpoint X ring, though not by much. The two photos below show the difference, measured with a set of vernier calipers. First the Aimpoint X low ring;

http://www.canonshooter.com/photos2/aimpointrings-2.jpg
The distance between the bottom of the objective lens and the top of the receiver cover measures .594".

Here is the S.A. ring I purchased from Brownells;

http://www.canonshooter.com/photos2/aimpointrings-3.jpg
The distance between the bottom of the objective lens and the top of the receiver cover measures .556". I also decided to mount the Aimpoint with the battery compartment on the left instead.

The difference is less than 1/16" but I will take it. Since the BP-02 is quick-detach from the receiver, the non-QD of the S.A. ring is a non-issue for me. I also like the "cleaner" look of the S.A. ring without the thumbscrew. Until Larue comes out with his mount, this will remain my set-up for this rifle.

Uodate - went to the range to sight back in. I firmly tightened the ring screws with LocTite when I installed the ring and so far it has held tight.

Cannonshooter, are you still happy with the Springfield Armory mount? Also, on a different but related note, do you also have an AR-15? I'm wondering where a set of folding iron sights would wind up in your Aimpoint ring if you used the SA mount. I'm hoping that you'd still be able to get an "upper co-witness", if you will.

So far, so good though I haven't shot it much since I posted this. Hoping to get some range time soon!
