View Full Version : Daniel Defense guys... slings?

Can anyone recommend a good sling for the sling mounts on the Daniel Defense M4's? I'd like to use the detachable mounts from Daniel Defense

http://primaryarms.com/images/1270839798648-297954748.jpeg

The points are at the base of the butt stock, and just behind the barrel, and seem like awkward spots for the sling.

So, if I use those points, what sling is best?

Or, should I just use the rear point and then get a rail-attached mount for farther forward on the rifle?

Did you click on the orange search button at the top of the page and type in "best sling"?

There are about eleventy billon hits for "best sling".

I personally prefer the Vickers Tactical padded sling from Blue Force Gear.

I did, but...

My question is about the DD mount points. Not all AR's mount in the same locations, right? (or am I wrong? I'm new)
I was under the impression that different lowers had different sling mount points.

There are lots of sling mounting positions and options.

The method you described is what I use and find optimal.

It is really up to you though what is best. Seeing how you already have the mounts for this position i would roll with it with a quality 2 point from V-Tac or Blue force gear.

I just picked up this sling, a Blue Force Gear Vickers DDM4 sling:

http://www.blueforcegear.com/products/Vickers-DDM4-Sling.html

I like it a lot. It has a QD push button sling swivel sewn in to the front portion of the sling that will plug right into your rail (if you have a QD push button mounting point) and I simply slotted the opposite end through the rear-most point in my MOE stock.

I picked up a Daniel Defense QD push button sling swivel in case I get a CTR stock and then I'll slot the QD swivel in the sling and just plug it in.

I'll try to post up a pic of my setup tomorrow.

Hello. I think what SeriousStudent was saying (I don't want to put words in anyone's mouth) is that if you search you will find all the sling threads you could possibly want to read. And while not everyone has a DD, many people use 2 point slings with QD mounts so you will find lots of info on them. In fact many people install the DD (or Noveske) rear plate mount just like on your rifle along with rail mounted QD's just like you OmegaX rail.

I do use a DDM4 v1 and I have been using the Gear Sector 2 point. I chose it because you can change the type of mounting hardware on the ends via clips. It has proved to be of super high quality. That being said I just recently ordered the Vicker's combat sling with sewn in QD's for another rifle. While I have not run it extensively yet I can tell you based on my initial impression I'm going to be ordering another one for my DD. Hope that helps and search is definitely your friend here.

Thanks guys. Some good info here, and I apologize if I didn't read more in my search. I was under the misimpression that the slings fit different rifles differently. :)

I got my AR yesterday and shot it for the first time today. I'm learning quickly. And you all are helping me. :D

I have the above mentioned Vickers DD sling. It is a quality product and I would buy it again.

Same here. I have mine mounted through the slot on my IMOD stock and the factory QD mount on an Omega X rail.

Congratulations on the new rifle. I think the prevailing suggestion will be get a sling, any quality sling, and go shoot the gun. Only then can you figure out what really works for you and what doesn't.

I missed this part of your question the first time. You didnt mention which version of the DD you got so I'm going to assume its similar to my v1. After experimenting with both the factory spot close in on the rail and a rail mounted QD further out as well as the rear reiver plate mount and stock attached I find the rear receiver mount and the built in QD on the rail close to the receiver to be the ideal combination. YMMV

Here's the link to the sling I mentioned that I purchased for another rifle bit I think I will be changing my DD over to

Thanks! Yeah, I got a V1.
I'll be ordering that sling today.

For grins, here's a pic of my (sling-less) rifle:

This is Vickers country and we all like the Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Application Sling, aka the Vickers sling. :)

I'm partial to TacticalLink single point slings, and Gear Sector 2pt. slings. I run Gear Sector slings in the DD QD sling mounts with no issues.

I've got a V3 and use a VCAS with sewn in QD swivels. I use the stock mounts but am going to pick up another rail mount to try it with the front mounted towards the front.

I went with an Emdom Gunslinger, some QD swivels and HK hooks to take advantage of the end-plate mount (to switch between 1 and 2 point). I almost never use the 1 point, but the sling works well.

To the OP - I did not clearly understand your question. The way it was phrased, I thought you were seeking a recommendation on a sling.

As Sam said, a lot of folks here like the Vickers VCAS sling. I'm one of those folks, and own five.

If the rear mounting point on the stock does not seem to work well for you, you may wish to try this product from Noveske:

http://www.noveskerifleworks.com/cgi-bin/imcart/display.cgi?item_id=rec-qdep&cat=61

It allows a quick attach and detach. It can take a bit more practice when transition from right to left, but not much more. I have them on four carbines, and they are not difficult to install if you have the correct tools.

You have a great carbine, feed it quality ammo and enjoy it!

ETA: Love the DeWitt flag, by the way.

Thanks for the info! And yes, I'm pumped about my new carbine. :)

As for the Flag, I love it. It epitomizes the Texas attitude and what I love about Texas. :D

Looks good.

Have the same sling. I put the front QD near the receiver, as further out near the FSB seemed to interfere with my support hand. I am still experimenting.

The sling points at the front and rear of the reciever is my prefered way to run a 2 point as well. I'm a fan of the Vtac padded sling myself, but sometimes all the padding and quick adjustment dohickies just arent necessary. For those times a plain nylon sling is fine.

VCAS mounted in the front and rear of the receiver using push button QD mounts here as well. I did buy a push button QD mount and put it higher up on the rail where the front site post is, don't think I'll be doing that again ;)

Sorry to hijack your thread OP, but what rear sling mount are you using there Matt?

I just take the loop of a wire clamp and weld it to a standard end plate. Cost me about 35 cents to make, and works perfect with HK snap hooks. I'm a cheap ass. ;)
