View Full Version : Alternative to DDLES 9mm?

Is there anyone else that makes a lower similar to the DDLES? I really like the shrunken mag well, and I ordered a lower that was marked "in stock" on their website.

After a few emails exchanged with Blaine, and having to ask twice when it will ship, he informed me that it would be 2-3 weeks while the feed ramp was being plated. Okay...that's not in stock, but alright.

My FFL asked me last week when to expect it, and I asked a week ago for a timeframe from Blaine. Just got an email this morning (a week later) that it would be 1-2 months. Thanks for charging my credit card and lying to me!

So I'm looking for an alternative.

Okay...he thought I was asking about ordering a new one.

But, two weeks later...still another 2-3 weeks? I wonder how many months 2-3 weeks will turn into. Still curious about an alternative.

As far as I know, there really isn't one which is too bad since DDLES can't seem to get them out.

i bought a 9mm lower last year, got it in a week, loved it.

i liked it enough to buy a 5.56 lower this year for another SBR project. paid in January, havent seen it yet. im holding out, because i like their product and its already paid for.

i just wish they would come right out and tell people whats going on. ive exchanged a few emails with them. nice folks, but i get the feeling that they do this on the side, and not as a 9-5 thing.

Hello guys, its Jon Beaudry here from Double Diamond LE Supply. I am very sorry that customers have to wait for their orders a little longer then we would like. Some of you may know we just finished relocating our shop. Along with that move we brought in some new people and purchased some new machines.

While the growth and the move are very good things for us, it did put us out of production for 2 months. That down time did not include the training of our new employees or other little hiccups when you are in a new building with new issues that go along with it.

But the good news is we are back in full production and moving quickly to fill all the orders we have. We are close to having the next batch of lowers and feed ramps done.

Again I am very sorry people have waited this long. Thank you for being patient and sticking with us. You will not be disappointed.

I really hate how these came out right after I registered and built a 9mm SBR

Damn..looks like I have at least another month. Still haven't heard back from them with my weekly update, so it might be worse news.

I ordered one in late January, hoping it ships soon.

CMMG also makes a dedicated 9mm lower but it doesn't have the small magwell. It's a lot cheaper too.

All backordered lowers over 2 weeks old are at wire EDM right now. If you figure about 3 to 4 days for it and the batch it is in to get back from wire EDM, then 3-4 days for machining the last operation and then 5 days for anodizing we will be looking at the 18th to the 20th for shipment.

Sorry the anodizing shop we use is pretty backed up right now. It does not usually take so long there.

Thank you all for understanding and being patient.

So Jon or Blaine:

What kind of delivery estimated date for the dedecated 9mm lowers?

Guys,
Just a little update.

9mm lowers are at anodizing and the feed ramps are at the vendor for the TiAlNi coating. We have been quoted a 5 day turn for both.

DeusExMachina
06-07-11, 11:43
Does that mean they will ship in ~5 days?

DDLES

There might be a couple days in transit from the vendors, with anodizing and the coating of the feed ramps being the last steps before we can ship, yes, we would be shipping when we get the parts back.

Update 6/23/11:

"With any luck, we will be shipping NEXT week." Quoted by Blaine, Double Diamond LE Supply.

Come on guys, lets make it happen!! :neo:

I got an email last Friday asking about my FFL from Jon (which I'm pretty sure my FFL contacted Blaine). My FFL sent his info over to Jon on Tuesday and neither of us have heard back.

OK, guys.

We recieved half the batch back from anodizing. We are shipping out lowers that we have FFL's on file for. We were told that we would get the rest of the lowers today, but our anodize shop has been pretty busy, so it is taking longer then we would like.

Any updates on shipped / received lowers?

DeusExMachina
07-12-11, 15:35
Yes! Mine arrived last Tuesday. I picked it up from the FFL on Thursday. ("You've waited this long, only two more days is a breeze, right?" What a jerk.)

I may be biased since I have it, but I think it was worth the wait. I haven't shot it yet, but it appears worth the money. There are actual cuts in the feed ramp (my mag block was just a flat ramp), the lower is made very well, good coating and the last round hold open mechanism looks good.

My one concern is the ejector is very wobbly. It seems to not have a problem ejecting snap caps, and it might be a purposeful design. That was just one thing I noticed.

DDLES
07-12-11, 21:03
We continue to ship lowers every day. We do unfortunately still have some lowers that are hung up at the anodize shop. We expect to be able to get those to start moving in a couple of days.

As for the ejector, the ejector is designed to float in the lower and be centered in the bolt by the curve of the ejector. If your ejector is loose it is a good thing and your gun has been manufactured as we designed it.

Again, I am sorry that some people have had to wait so long.

just a littel tight. Now if DDLES will just come through with the barrel they promised me, otherwise I appear to be :suicide2: I waited months for this, now the wait for thier upper and forend? I can't get much info from them, but with little to no decent barrel alternatives I may have no choice.

Well I finally go to run my DDLE lower this past weekend and I am very impressed. 240 rounds suppressed and she ran 100%. The cases ejected out to the 3:00 very hard but did not damage them. I'm running a RRA bolt, RRA upper and a ADCO 5" barrel and a YHM Cobra M2 suppressor.. Funnest gun I have to shoot in my arsenal..:D

I went with a Bravo Co 10.5" chrome lined SMG barrel and having Tornado cut it to 8 inch and thread. I am doing a pistol with a DPMS smooth side upper and will get a Gemtech suppressor when I can. How do you like the accuracy of the 5" barrel? Do you think the ejected casings are even hitting the (gas or shell) deflector on the RR upper?

Thanks!!
Your build sound nice too.
As far as accuracy goes I was shooting 147 gr Winchester super unleaded and it was great out 25 yards. That is as far as I shot it..
And as far as the ejection goes, no I don't think it hit the gas deflector. It just went flipping straight out.. Very nice..
I used C- Products mags and metalform mags and they both ran flawless. Slow fire, rapid fire.. It was all good.. I did forget to add the bolt came from ADCO ramped...

These dedicated lowers with the slant magwell are pretty awesome looking!. Im hooked..lol...Do these use standard lower parts kits? I have a spare DD lower parts kit that I have been contemplating turning into a new rifle..May have just changed directions and get one of the stripped lowers to build off of.

It looks as if there are quite a few of these out there. They sure do look great, I can hardly wait to shoot mine. I too am waiting on a barrel and yes they take a standard parts kit although I believe there is some discretion between hammers working with BCG's.

Sweet!

If you'll allow me an observation: It has kind of a "stick" look to it that, IMHO, would be well complimented by one of those new MOE-K grips. Just a thought.

Nice shootin' stick, regardless.

I just finished putting this pistol together with the 8" barrel and took a couple of i-phone pics. I can't do a SBR here but hope to get a supressor soon. I want to do both supressed and unsupressed target shooting. The fit on the forward pin on the DPMS upper was tight but I think it looks good with the Robar coated bolt.
