The 2nd Amendment Club of West Pasco County, along with the NRA, and along with one of the county commissioners is exploring the idea of constructing a "world class shooting facility" in Pasco County, FL (about 30 miles north of Tampa International Airport). I found out about this because I was on an old mailing list of theirs. So I attended the meeting tonight and got some details.

They are envisioning something that will be a world class multi-discipline shooting sports park. They are envisioning something similar to the Clark County, NV (Link1 (http://www.clarkcountynv.gov/depts/parks/Pages/sp-welcome-page.aspx) , link 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clark_County_Shooting_Park)) shooting complex (about 1,000 acres) or the Maricopia, AZ (Link 1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Avery_Shooting_Facility), Link 2 (http://www.azgfd.gov/outdoor_recreation/ben_avery.shtml)) Ben Avery Shooting facility. They are still exploring the types of ranges that would be available, but they did say trap, skeet, sporting clays, SSA (cowboy), 1,000 yard, pistol, rifle and possible action pistol and action rifle. Their desire is to set up a place where national and international competitions could be held. Keep in mind that they are still exploring the idea.

If you are interested in the idea of such a facility, no matter where you live, they have set up the following survey (Link To Survey (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2W9XJX7)) to gauge interest. Please take the time to fill out this survey no matter where you live.

Without action shooting bays it would be a complete waste of money. That is the direction the industry is headed, but it scares the CASS and shotgunning crowd who tend to be the older, more affluent, more vocal contingency with more time on their hands to bitch and moan.

Universal Shooting Academy, site of the 2011 IDPA Wold Championship, has the lock down on bay-shooting for training and matches.

Nothing wrong with another one, but I've been involved in too many of these types of things to think that the geezers are going to get out of the way.

Under "what type" the choices should include "action" to get a full measure of this.

Here is the link to the 2nd Amendment Club.

ETA: They used to have a range of their own for members. I guess that got squashed. I don't know the details on it.

Yeah one of the problems is that the group is densely populated with NYC refugees who are in their 50s and 60s and its head quartered in what is now a remote corner of the county.

As for their range, the guy who was donating his land got told by his insurance carrier to evict the club or lose his home owners insurance. Since this is Florida he really didn't have any other choice.

I hit the survey up, but like Rob said, we need action shooting bays too.

I made the decision this weekend while getting my NRA cert as a rifle instructor for scouts to take a more proactive role and see what I can do to move the design in that direction. Question is will a bunch of 60 year old men listen to a young pup of 40?

Maybe, maybe not. Never hurts to try though.

I hope I'm not as stubborn as some of the older guys I see in the shooting world when I get to be that age... sheesh.
