I am wanting to get some engraving (Note: the engraving is not simply text) done on a couple lowers, but, considering that I have not done this before, I thought I'd ask around and see who is known for doing a good job on this type of thing.

If possible, I'd like the original manufacturer to engrave the lower before anodizing the lower, but I am not aware of any company that would do that.

Any thoughts or advice will be greatly appreciated.

You have two general choices. Laser or a physical bit. I had my Sig 226's slide engraved with my company's Logo. This was done by laser on Sigs "Nitron" finish. The finished product has an almost holographic appearance showing nearly black when from certain angles and a polished silver outline in certain lighting angles.

This was done by His Hands Laser

He has both types of engraving tools and has done many firearms. Call them up and ask for Lloyd. Tell him George sent you.

I've had a few guns done, years back I had custom lowers from Tom Sawyer Manufacturing done. But he sold out to Orion Arms and as far as I know they don't do full custom lowers.

There is a local guy who does great work, Harford Engraving Service. He has a FFL so you can ship. I had on of my 20" lowers engraved by him.
