Here’s a pretty neat pair that Ted and I recently finished up...

Ted and I generally work individually on one gun at a time but when these guns came up the bug hit us and we both jumped right in. And if you ask me there’s not much cooler than a classic Colt Government Model with an equal LW Commander for a reload.

The gentleman who owns these guns had a clear vision of what he wanted for them when he dropped them off at the shop some time last year. Retro styled shooters was the order of the day and he gave Ted and I free reign to change what needed changing and fix what needed fixing in order to insure these guns would shoot for a long time to come. His major request was to keep the guns looking somewhat original and overall classic but to make them matching shooters.

In addition to keeping the Commercial thumb safeties and stock grip safeties we retained the spur hammers on both and shortened them up proportionally to each gun. Most of the internals such as sears, disconnects, triggers, ejectors, extractors, firing pin stops, plunger tubes, slide stops, etc. were tossed for better quality parts and we installed Kart barrels and EGW bushings along with Retro rear sights with dovetailed fronts with gold line inserts. We gave them serrated front straps to match the newly blended serrated mainspring housings and rounded out the bottom end with hand-beveled mag wells. Last thing was to border the slides and polish them out... enjoy the pictures! :)

Very cool.

I agree with the owner, having a pair of 1911s, one fullsize steel and one smaller aluminum, is the perfect pair.

Now if I could just convince Springfield to make a light weight aluminum officer's frame with a 4.25" bushing barrel and I can have ya'll make one to match my 1*.:D

Great looking guns here though. I've always liked that "retro" rear sight ya'll offer.

Those are some super sexy guns! In my thread about a basic, reliable 1911 that looks about what I had in mind. Maybe it's time to find a decent used Colt and talk to you guys about some work :D

Those old school pistols have an elegance and flair that no beavertailed wonder gun can match.

Is that holster a Milt Sparks Summer Special 1?

Classic and classy pistols from Jason, very impressive. The holster looks similar to the Sparks Summer Special but I noticed some extra moldings on the holster, it may be the copy of the SS by Matt Del Fatti. Am I right Jason?

The Government Model is awesome.

Im going to get around to having the same package done on a Colt one day.

Thanks as always for the feedback and comments guys... I really appreciate it!

These guns were allot of fun for Ted and I to build as they showcase fairly well how simple yet complete a custom 1911 can be. Maybe not my personal choice for an everyday gun but for a special treat at the range or as a basic set of "shooters" you can't beat a simple and workable configuration such as these. ;)

Close... my pal Sam got it right... the holster and mag carrier are from Matt DelFatti. The holster is his rendition of the classic and original iteration Summer Special before the second loop and stitched sight tracks were added.

I'm a huge fan of the Sparks Summer Special and this rig from Matt is plain and simple a work of art.
