I think it is time to replace my extractor on my DDM4V1. I have about 4,000-5,000 rounds through it and I'm having extraction problems.

Here's my question:

Can I, or should I, buy DD parts for my BCG, or simply pick them up elsewhere. I'd also like to replace the buffer spring.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Buy the parts from any of the "top tier" brands.

BCM sells an "extractor upgrade" kit for $30 that has everything you need. More than likely the claw is still serviceable, but the spring and insert should be replaced. Although at the price of parts and peace of mind, might as well just replace it all.

When you pull the extractor you want to run the teeth over your fingertip to see if they are still sharp. Having a new part to compare it to is helpful. and better to have the parts on hand than to have to run out and order them.

I'd suggest two of these kits (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-SOPMOD-Bolt-Upgrade-Rebuild-Kit-p/bcm%20bolt%20upgrade%20kit.htm) that way you have one complete set of parts to install now if you need to, and a complete set of spares.

At the price of these things, I find it worthwhile to just change out the extractor at the same time as the spring, but you can also order just the springs/inserts (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Extractor-Spring-Uprade-Kit-p/bcm%20extractor%20spring%20%203pack.htm) to have on hand which doesn't hurt.

So...took out the extractor, and took a close look and .... voila...here you go. Broken.

Yep. Thats broke. And prematurely I would say. Give us a call and we will get you an new one.

Got a phone call back from Jeff...he reminded me that they offer a lifetime warranty all parts. He told me my extractor should have lasted up to 9,000 rounds.

So, they are mailing me a new one for free.

Not a surprise how well they treated you.

I had one minor issue with one of my rifles, so I called them up, and within a few minutes I had an RMA# and a UPS shipping tag sitting in my E-Mail inbox.

I shipped the upper back to DD, and within a few days I had it back, in a new box, and everything was in order.

They have a customer for life!

Not only do they produce a top notch product, their customer service is excellent.
