hey guys. picked up an inland M1 carbine on sale at the big 5 yesterday and I'm trying to find out more about it. is there a website or something that could help me find out more about my carbine?

I posted this over on TFL and someone told me that the writing on the stock is a Hebrew name which made us think it may be a lend/lease gun to Israel.

the serial number is 831123 the barrel is marked "inland div general motors 8-43" I'm guessing 8-43 means august 1943. the barrel band is marked "AMCO" in front of the sling swivel. under the barrel behind the gas port the is a 5 further down is "BI" then a 3. on the front of the receiver on the left side there is an "SG"

the stock has ther serial number on it just behind the wrist. the number 1292 in under the wrist of the stock. underneath the handguard is stamped SA and the handguard itself has "LW-B" on the underside.

here you can see a label on the stock. I was told by someone on TFL that the writing is Hebrew and it reads "Moshe Misrachi" which is someone's name.

Try the CMP Forums for all the information you will need. You should have a good "shooter". The new Korean 15 and 30 round magazines that have recently started to come in are excellent quality.

Enjoy it. It will give you a sense of history. It might give you a new appreciation for how the WWII GIs managed to get along very nicely without all of the stuff we now consider absolutely necessary. For instance, their sniper rifles had scopes we would now consider trash, but somehow they did the job with them anyway.

I took it out today and ran 50 rounds though it with one failure to eject and it shoots well. I have a handful of mags already because before I knew better I traded for a universal :bad: carbine which work fine with FMJ but sucked with the SPs this baddy chewed through.

Respring it, shoot it.

The Israelis started issuing M1 Carbines to school teachers a while back after some Palestinian attacks on Israeli schools and children.

The attacks pretty much stopped after that.

gotta love the way the Israelis handle things. we could learn something from them.

still looking for info but I'm told the stock is a post-war replacement made for an IBM carbine. I couldn't find an import mark but I'm hoping that this is the gun that was in this stock when someone slapped their name on the side. probably will never know for sure. even if it was it could have just been some random guy that thought it would be neat to write his (or someone's) name in Hebrew on it.

there's also some writing on the butt of the gun that I can't make out. at first I didn't think much of it but after looking at it again I thought it could maybe be more Hebrew so I posted the pic on TFL and the same person told me it was also a name, the same as on the side of the stock. I found a century arms import stamp on the underside of the barrel today and I found out my receiver was subcontracted to saginaw. the guys at the CMP forum have been very helpful.

anyway here it is. had to play with the contrast to make the script stand out.

Carbines always have a nice history story to tell. Congrats on yours, it looks like it still has lots of service to give. I'm glad it found its way back home. Like others have stated, swapping springs and checking all the parts for wear and function would be a good idea. Enjoy!

yeah. the stock is really beat up but the metal is in good shape and the finish isn't worn much. I'm planning on ordering new springs and other small parts and a bolt disassembly tool and giving it a good going-over.

Congrats on the Carbine.
Not long ago the CMP had another batch of USGI 15 round mags. I ordered a few and haven't looked since to see if they still do.
If you haven't ever used a Carbine bolt tool ask some questions and study on it. They are easy to break.
There's an M1Carbine Forum out there. Google it.

Congrats on the carbine, I love mine (I have 2), though my kids have pretty much appropriated them from me. Great rifle to "move up" as the kids get bigger and graduate from .22's to bigger things. I reload and have developed some nice loads for it.

As far as good generic info with decent tutorials with pictures, the surplusrifle website is pretty good:
Link: http://www.surplusrifle.com/m1carbine/index.asp Over on the right column is the maintenance section.

I rebuilt mine with a set of Wolf gunsprings, runs like a champ.

My only advice is to steer clear of aftermarket 30 round magazines, most are crap and don't feed well and hang up. I stick to 15's.

oh yes. surplusrifles.com one of my favorite sites out there. I already have a bunch of 15s around. I love how handy the gun is with a 15 in it and 2 more in a pouch on the stock. if you buy a ruger 10/22 and throw some tech-sights on it it's the perfect companion/trainer for a carbine.

hey guys. so I'm going to rebuild the bolt. I'm trying to find a list of all the springs and small parts I need to do this and any other parts I should replace while I'm at it. I'm not very familiar with m1 carbines so don't leave anything out. I'm planning on getting a bolt tool and maybe down the line I'll get a whole spare bolt for it.

Nice gun. I didn't know that Israel ended up with some, but I am not in the least surprised.

How limited are you in terms of ammo? (Is milsurp ball still available?)

Surplus ball has been shot up for a couple decades. Beware some "LC52" head stamped ammo packaged in rice paper....it's Chicom surplus that they made for use in captured M1 Carbines, and it's corrosive. They even copied the headstamp.

After WWII, we gave M1 Carbines and M1 Garands out like party favors. Israel ended up with a ton of Carbines.
