Wind was up pretty good last night, and I wanted to get some shooting done. I grabbed the DTA with 308 conversion and set to it. It was pretty challenging.

5.6 mils up.
3.5-5.5 mils right.

Ohhh, hello little cars in the background.

Yup. ... that's about 3 miles away. Not much to worry about.

Looks deceptive with that zoom...

Looks familiar. I lived in Kansas for nearly nine years.

?

Video was shot in south dakota. I'd probably like kansas though if they are that similar. :)

Very nice...and windy! I would love to have that amount of land!

Nice shooting. Thats pretty impressive with no wind markers farther down range. I get spoiled where I shoot by the marsh grass.

Care to share the details on your 175gr SMK load? I'm about to start a work up with that projectile for my rifle.

Both are part of the Great Plains and geographically/climatologically very similar.

Long winded way to say the wind blows like hell in KS most of the time.

I started shooting highpower there at a club that goes to 600 yds. So wind was always an issue. However, we mostly did other things when it went > 30 mph. Like Hobie Cat sailing on Cheney Lake.

Surely.

44gr Varget
Winchester brass
CCI200 primer

Now here is the kicker: That load is actually for a different 308 I have, with a bisley chamber. The bullet is seated 2.225" to ogive, which in that rifle is 10 thousandths off the lands. In this rifle, that is 40 thou off. Doesn't seem to matter, as it shoots pretty good. I haven't been able to clean a 20 shot 1/2" dot-drill with it though, so obviously it would probably benefit from a little bit of tuning.

Start at 42gr of varget and work up. Start 10 thou off the lands. I'd be surprised if it didn't put you in the ballpark.

Thanks for the info. I've had very good luck with my 168gr smk load, but it starts to get pretty squirrely around 750 yards. So I'm excited to build a load that will get me out to a grand with some consistency.

The 168's were designed for 600yd competition. They don't like the transonic region at all. The 175's are stable as hell! I've shot them out to 1200yds. Definitely subsonic at that range, and they still hit the steel straight on, and were remarkably predictable. Granted the wind was very low that day and I'm NOT saying the 308 with 175's is a 1200yd solution.
