Hello,

I am familiar with some of the quality control features carried out on AR's. Shot peening, high pressure testing, and magnetic particle inspection are carried out on every mil spec rifle.

Does anyone know if these are done on higher quality AK's which leave the factory- for example Izhmash? Do they have other quality control tests that they do? Is this only critical on AR pattern rifles? Im interested to know.

Military rifles, especially the barrels, are proofed. Take the handguard and gas tube off of a military AK and you'll see all kinds of proofing and acceptance marks on the barrel.

That extends to first line manufacturers like Arsenal Bulgaria and Izmash. Kits built using original surplus barrels as well.

As far as shot peening, HP testing on the bolt, I don't know.

I will say I've never seen a broken Kalashnikov bolt in the 26 years I've been shooting them. Can't say that about an AR bolt.

How do the military barrels hold up to the mild steel bullets? 10000 or so? My first AK adventure, not crazy about the long trigger pull!

10K should be no problem in a Commie made barrel.

they certainly are not match grade target barrels. After shooting mine I decided a red dot (its a red football to my eye) would be "enough" for my rifle as compared to an 3X ACOG.

I doubt they would bother with any fancy testing.

They just solve the problem instead with a nice low stress bolt design that has plenty of built in safety margin.

Broke in the same spot. Damn, actually if the one linked weren't in Alabama and last year as opposed to in Ohio three years ago I'd swear it was the same bolt.

ETA: Just noticed my photo of that bolt was also shown in that same GT thread
