View Full Version : LMT .308 MWS buffer concern...
Hello,
During an after shoot cleaning session I noticed a small "ring" around the edge of the buffer. Here are some pics.....

Any idea whats going on here?? Is the buffer hitting the retaining pin in a wierd fashion??
I was shooting a lot of different kinds of ammo.....Fed 150 gr sp, DAG 147gr, indian military surplus and some Winchester 150 gr.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
I'm guessing its from the bolt carrier hitting the buffer when being fired.
It happens, not something I would be worried about. It is caused by the carrier impacting the buffer. Though I am curious where the straight scratches inside the ring came from.

16 inch barrel with the carbine gas length system? It operates, uhm, stoutly.
I would assume (man, I hate doing that) then that I would NOT have to replace the buffer after a certain round count?? I wondered about this as I have not seen this on a buffer before, at least not as severe. Thanks to all for the help.
I have a couple buffers that make yours look great, and I've never worried about replacing them. Buffer springs, yes, but buffers themselves, no, unless I was changing to a lighter or heavier buffer.

Pivoting the upper receiver out of the lower.

Those are from the cut out channel in the bolt carrier for buffer retainer pin clearance. The sharp edges drag on the buffer when the receiver opens/closes.
Thank you to all for the replies. I will not worry about it then.
Yes, for a local private company.
Great plane, I flew a CJ2+ for a while now I am back on the MD-80.
Yes, the Citation X is a great airplane, never any worries about performance. The cockpit is small and not for the claustraphobic. Great speed, great handling. Are you airline or private??

You might check the back of the carrier where it makes contact and feel if you have a small burr or sharp edge thats contacting the buffer.
If you find something, a few strokes with a fine file might be all the attention it needs...
I checked it, smooth as a babys butt. No dings or burrs at all. Maybe its the angle at which the BCG hits the buffer?? I have not shot it since, but when I do I will check to see if it gets worse.
