View Full Version : How 'bout these specs?

I am still very new to ARs and am looking to purchase a basic gun. I'm not up to speed on the ins and outs of everything yet, but I'm reading as much as I can.

I shot an AR for the first time at a Carbine match Sunday and now I see why everybody likes these things so much. I already signed myself up for a carbine class that happens next month. I have a decent pile of NHMTG 30 round mags and ammo is on the way (lots):D.

The gun I shot Sunday was a bone stock Colt LE6920. I liked it. I was pretty slow, but I shot mostly Alphas, and didn't screw up much (I found out about seating a loaded mag under a closed bolt).

How do the specs below sound? Sorry if this an annoying post.

Just get the Colt 6920.

Agreed. "Mil Spec" is tossed around so much on stuff that really isn't.

The specs sound decent, but they're finishing it off on a Spikes lower? That's a red flag.

Why do those specs look so familiar? https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=79430

Typically speaking, no $699 rifle is going to be mil-spec. It is a game and you should always follow this saying: "If it is to good to be true, then it most likely."

If you want to get a good gun at very cheap, then go BCM.

Otherwise. Stick to the standard. Colt.

Agreed but if this is what your budget will support go for it. I believe you said this is your first AR so it's a place to start learning. Again I say go for it, shoot the crap out of it, and once you have some experience and can decide what you like/want and don't then upgrade.

If those specs are true, go for it. I would go with the Spikes lower over the RRA, in my opinion. The only thing I dont like is the 1x9 twist rate, but if it works for you, do it.

It's nice to see people who seek advice and absorb the responses.
I have been getting so annoyed lately with people asking for help and then pulling a U-Turn at the last minute, ignoring all the insight provided, and buying crap.

I got my DD XV carbine for $900 off of gunbroker... Proven quality really doesn't have to be that expensive.

Deep down, I really wanted a Colt for my first.

I have a plan to stick with the gun in stock form and get at least a few thousand rounds and a class or two through it before I try an optic or anything.

I guess these guns will eat pretty much anything?

Hi.. as you can see this is my first post. probably should have gone to the intro forum but i had to chime in here..briefly...bought a fifth tier AR before i knew any better.. of course it takes a dump on me so i go online to learn something...found you guys and boy did i learn something. this is the greatest site i have found for info, advice and some fun people... anyway..went to the gun shop and fell in love with LE6920. fortunately the wife even gets it about what a piece of crap i have and says go get the colt.. so i'm scratchin a little here and there and will work some OT to get it...i'm just plinkin for now but i don't want to have to go out and get another one. start at the top to begin with. tried talking to my bud about his baushmaster and he says "it's supposed to be a good one" oh well....Again thanks for this great site and hope to learn lots more.. safe shooting to you all.

Thats why my first AR was a LE6920. The way I figure it, if I am spending the money, I am getting whats good. Second AR is a BCM..... No cheap junk for me!

I got the Colt. It's the same one I shot in the carbine match last weekend. It was straight out of the box and I'm the only person that's ever shot it.

So far I have 100 rounds through it. I threw it on a sandbag today while I was at the range doing some pistol work and this thing is easy to shoot. At least I think so. I shot a few groups at 50yds, got a few of down to about 1 3/4".

Then you're a far better shot than I. I average about 4-5" groups at 50, and it's not the rifles' fault.

Colt barrels are some of the most accurate carbine barrels available.
