This weekend, I had an excellent chance to practice close-range rifle work. I participated in a local IDPA match and shot my 9mm AR as a second gun. I shot all of the stages as instructed - if the stage called for support hand only, I transitioned sides and worked the drill like an injured shooter, getting my hits with just my left hand.

I learned a lot and was impressed with how much better you can hit with a carbine and run it as fast as a pistol. Unfortunately, IPDA is winding down with the start of hunting season in my area but I plan to be back next spring.

Below are links to movies showing me shooting a stage with both rifle and pistol. (Stage: Start with your hands on the trunk. At the buzzer, engage T1 with three rounds; drag the bag to simulate a wounded friend; bag releases disappearing mover, engage mover with at least two rounds; engage four targets from cover with two rounds each; move to next cover and engage two more targets.)
