I will be putting together a course of fire that I will post on all electronic social media sources for our students to practice either for your own professional development or for training purposes to get yourself ready for the next RB1 course.

These standards will include drills that will reflect the competencies gained during build up training from RB1's series of professional development courses.

This course of fire be considered 'the standard' and serve as a 'Go/No Go' criteria for attending advanced training with RB1. Stand by for more details!

That'd be great Jason specially one each for Carbine, Pistol and perhaps even a Carbine/Pistol course. Something to practice and also minimum standards. Very thoughtful and accommodating of you.

Also, it all goes towards getting maximum quality training time with proper preparations (environmental and range conditions permitting). Like Jason mentioned in another post for a Carbine course:

For the enrolled students, make sure that you arrive with your rifle zeroed! This will save about 1-3 hours of training time. I recommend a 50/200m zero, but this training will focus on advanced weapons manipulations and movement training.

Make sure you have good ammo and plenty of lube on the working parts to keep that gun going!

Check ALL of your accoutrements on your guns. Anything that has a QD lever, check for fit and anything that has a screw thread attachment, make sure it's finger tight then tighten it 1/4 turn with a screw driver.

Batteries! Make sure you have spares for anything that takes them.

Magazines! Do a 100% check on ALL of your mags and get rid of any that are suspect. Mag Test #1 - Fill it up and hit the bottom, see if any rounds spring out! If so, walk it to the trash can and deposit it!

I will be running full kit while on the range, that means armor, belt order and full combat uniform and gloves. I don't mind what my students train in, so feel free to bring your range rigs.

Targets for these are standard IPSC?

RamZar

Based on his classes and Facebook posts, Jason mentions the RB1 Silhoutette Target (http://www.redbackone.com/combat-training-targets) which is basically an IDPA target. For these standards he adds a 7" circle for the pelvis zone. So, the scoring zones are 6" square head, 8" center mass circle and 6" pelvis square.

Nice adaptation of the Hackathorn and 10-8 drills. Covers the bases. Thanks for sharing and will give it a go. :)

I just shot it before starting work today. Not bad. I thought I'd do better but there was time where I was rushing shots and still have a bunch of time left over.

I shot this drill today, first time, cold. Since I have shot the Hack and 10-8 a few times I figured I would attempt to push the speeds and really challenge myself with the times. Overall it is a good test of a shooters various skills and fundamentals. On the downside, I really like simple drills with similar times and not needing to drag out barricades. I understand the reasoning but heck I get lazy at times. ;)

Anyway I shot a video, of course, but the battery died at the 20m line. Maybe I will try to get another video run and shoot it up and up without rushing the pace and attempt to run it clean.

Jason,

Thanks for sharing these.

I have a question on the carbine standards ... Serial 8, second bullet point:

5 rounds body strong side cover, transition 5 rounds strong side cover – 16 sec

Did you mean to say:

5 rounds body strong side cover, transition 5 rounds weak side cover – 16 sec

I'm assuming vertical cover means a barricade?

Thanks!

I read "transition" to mean going to pistol as Serial 8 Bullet Point 1 clearly states "weak side cover, support shoulder"

Nice one Surf, thanks for sharing. I've posted a link to your video on our Facebook page. Thanks, always nice to support good people like yourselves. I have enjoyed Jason's drills on video and would love to train with him and the folks at RB1 in the future. My plate has been so full with various courses this past year, that I would love to get in a trip and just be on the shooting line side of things for a change, but it is only going to get worse for the remainder of this year. Maybe 2012. :)

Good shooting Surf!Always appreciated my friend!

Can you clarify a couple of things on your Carbine standards?

*A pic of your "High Ready" Position for reference would be helpful.

*On Serial #3: (1 round body, transition, 1 round body, reload, 1 round body - 11.00 sec) Does this call for 1 round Rifle, transition, 1 round Pistol, reload, 1 round Rifle?

That's correct, 1 carbine, 1 Pistol, 1 Carbine.

I will get a photo and post it on the FB page with the standards.

The true position of the high ready is always a contentious one. I have written a description of both the high and low ready positions on the RB1 FB page notes. I have now attached some photos in that same location that replicate the high ready as closely as possible, taken from previous courses.
