Hey guys,

I have been looking to put together a small group buy for some nice lowers. I have an FFL that will handle all the transfers, or be willing to order the lowers if he can get them through a distributor.

The problem is, I can't find a source for "high end" lowers. By "high end" I mean brands such as Noveske, BCM, LMT, etc. I am not dead set on any specific brand, I just don't want to buy a DPMS, RRA, CMMG, or anything similar, which is all the dealer says he can get a decent deal on. The dealer says he can order LRB lowers, but he needs to order at least 30 to get a decent deal.

I will probably have 6-10 people in on the order, and we all want stripped lowers.

Does anyone know what distributors carry good quality lowers, or a company the dealer can order from directly?

I've had good luck with the Palmetto Arms lowers. That's a total of only 2! I've also built a couple on the CY6 Defensive Edge lowers that Grant carries.

Note that there's some small differences in the end result depending on whether you get the safe/fire stamped or pictogram version.

At least there was a couple months ago when 2 of each were ordered by a group of us.

I don't have a pictogram one here anymore but distinctly remember the reinforcing area around the takedown pin to receiver extension loop was definitely different. (if pressed I can try to get hold of one of each to do side by side pix)

General lettering stamping was different too.

We have LMT and BCM lowers. Neither company offers them stripped though.

My suggestion is to buy the complete lowers and then sell the parts you do not want. Both LMT and BCM LPK's are VERY RARE (as neither company sells them) so those alone would sell for close to $100.

Just a thought.

Check with Mega Machine Shop. Their lowers usually get good reviews, no crazy embelishments...http://megamachineshop.com/armscatalog/007FORGEDLOWER-M0200/loader.html

When I look for stripped lowers, I check with Rifle Gear or DD's Ranch.

I'm also a fan of Mega. Mega even makes a billet with built in ambi bolt release.

I got a stripped lower from Accurate Armory (http://www.accuratearmory.com/) and it's got some nice features, but I haven't had a chance to take pictures to outline the improvements yet.

Of the stripped lowers I know to be readily available, I think this one is worth a look.

JD Machine in San Diego. They manufacture them in house and for other companys as well and will also do custom markings and serial numbers for an additional fee. www.jdmachinetech.com

The lower on my rifle came from a local group buy put together with Accurate Armory, so I know they will do them. Don't recall what price we got on them though. Give them a call, Keith is a pretty easy guy to work with.

I've been extremely happy with all my AGP Arms lowers - very nice quality and a good company to deal with. They'll do custom serials and possibly other markings.

I've built two Palmetto State Armory lowers, one pictogram and one SAFE/FIRE. The picto lower had a low shelf and threaded rear takedown spring hole and is reportedly made by Aero Precision. The SAFE/FIRE lower had a raised shelf and non threaded hole. Don't know who makes that one but they both went together and shoot just fine.

Rainier Arms has a TON of different lower receivers.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I'm probably just going to get a complete LMT. I am out of ideas on where to get a deal on 10 or so lowers. So I don't think I will bother with a group buy.

We can cut you some price break on the LMT lowers we have in stock (SOPMOD Stock, Ambi Selector, Standard trigger).

Everything is right on those AGPs. The little things like getting the trigger guard holes where they belong.... so you don't chew up your middle finger... are what make those AGPs a good deal.

And they're under $100.

The two times I've needed a stripped lower, I've bought Noveske. Neither were blem'd and I paid maybe $160, give or take?? I'll see if I can find either of the receipts. Another time I bought a stripped Colt, never used, from a guy that didn't need it for $75. I couldn't pass it up even though I didn't need it at the time.

I usually don't need a stripped lower unless I buy a complete lower somewhere, change out a number of parts and eventually there ends up being enough to complete a stripped lower. I will typically buy a lower and maybe change the stock (or RE lately), sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Anyway, my experience with the Noveske's was good and I see them online stripped, so maybe Google it and then ask those dealers, or maybe a Noveske distributor (Grant maybe?), about a group buy.

I would check out the spikes stripped lowers on aim or look at palmetto state armory. They can be had for under $80. Also, a few sites sell aero precision lowers for sub $75 range. As long as you purchase 7075 forged lower that is properly machined there really isn't much difference between lowers other than the roll mark and finish.

Not sure what the big deal is, you save $2/lower ordering 30 instead of the 10 or so you need:

30+ pieces...$56.95 20-29 pieces...$57.95 10-19 pieces...$58.95

Even other "cheap" brands like PSA and SA&A ($59) are made by Aero Precision, which is usually GTG.

Wow, I am not sure he knew that or not. I doubt he would lie, he has no reason to.

Grant, thanks for the offer, but I can get the LMT locally for a good price. Since the NV-DPS thinks they need $25 every time I buy a gun, transfers aren't worth it. After tax/NICS, I don't save anything.

Have you see this thread

There is plenty different between lesser manufacturers and better manufacturers than just the roll mark and finish

I clearly stated in my post a properly machined lower using 7075 aluminum forgings which is the correct specification. Aero-precision, spikes, and palmetto are all 7075 forged lowers and have been used successfully in numerous builds.

Well, I think I found what I was looking for. I'm usually not a fan of stupid roll marks, or lame ass engraving, but this is pretty cool.

My dogs name is Pirate, and my fiance and I kind if revolve our lives around that dog. I may buy two of them so I can start a build for her soon also.

Thanks for your help guys.

A friend has a spikes like that and hasn't had any issues with it. Only instead of the pictograms for the selector it has pirate terms like plunder

I figured I would update this thread.

Fellow M4C member "m249saw" saw I was looking for a Noveske lower in another thread, and sold me tje brand new one he had just bought from DSG.It's arriving at my FFL tomorrow. I am pretty stoke because this is a hell of a step up from the Plum Crazy it is replacing.

Now all I need to do is scrape up enough change to get a Daniel Defense LPK

Yes it is. Now I won't hang my head in shame when people ask me what lower I have Haha.

I will still be using the commercial reciever extension, buffer, and spring from the plum crazy, but it has worked great so far. I will upgrade to a mil spec extension and H buffer eventually. I'm more concerned with ammo and training right now.

I sadly have to change my AGP Arms recommendation to "try before you buy". For some reason they changed the tolerances on their lowers resulting in what I consider to be excessive slop when mounting a known good upper (BCM and DD plus others.) My earlier AGP lowers were perfect, the last two not so much.
