Anyone currently using the Hornady .223 75 gr. BTHP TAP TRAINING load? Was looking for opinions on accuracy, velocity and function from 14.5" to 16" inch barrels.

I believe Grant uses it as fodder for the training classes he takes, with no reported problems. You might touch base with him.

That's just what I remember off the top of my head, and I only had two cups of coffee this morning. So "trust but verify." ;)

I can never find any in stock. Want to transition to all 75gr to keep my sights zeroed.

I have relied on this ammo for the last couple of years in the Tac Scope division in 3 gun. It is very accurate in most of my ARs (under 1/2 MOA) and accurate in all of them (under 1 MOA). All my guns are twisted 1 in 9 or faster. It runs about 2725 fps out of an 18 in barrel.

I was also impressed with its penetration on a car door and glass during Lamb's last Nightfighter class BUT that was only a couple of shots, not some definitive test.

I have one JP trigger which does not reliably ignite this ammo but I have 3 others that have no problems.

does the laquor casing have a negative effect on the barrel?

I have been shooting every cheap Russian lacquer steel cased ammo out there for the past several years while attending training classes and I can honestly say I cant remember one time were the lacquer on the steel case caused a malfunction with my Bushmaster/Colt or Ruger carbines. I have also been watching for extractor wear and chamber/throat damage and I have yet to see a problem.

I have fired about 7500 rounds of Hornady training rounds through 3 different uppers, 2 of which were JPs with "match" chambers. I have never had a problem with extractors, lacquer residue etc.

Lacquer doesn't come off the cases.......take a lighter to one of those cases and heat it up and you'll see that stuff doesn't burn off.

+10 to the above. The load is excellent for training/matches. Have had zero issues in just over 6500 rounds, save mag related feeding issues.

Got to remember to throw away those C-products...LOL.

We've gone through 15k of the 55 grain training ammo in the last year. We issue 55 gr Gold Dot as a duty round and it works out well without re-zeroing. No problems at all.
