Hey Guys,

So I'm in Washington state. We can use our cans starting approx July23. What I want to do is build a short barreled AR and permanently attach a sleeve/shroud, similar to the SBX 10/22 barrels. The plan is to screw an aac ranger 2 into that shroud. This will keep me over the 16 inch OAL. The gun will only be shot suppressed but I don't want to permanently attach the can to the gun. I'd like the handguard to cover the joint between teh barrel and the shroud. Largely cosmetic, but I like the MP5 SP look. SO here is what I'm looking at. Ranger 2 is 1.5 inches. I'll need a bit of space for the shourd, so I'm going to end up at 1.75 inches or so. I'm thinking a PRI carbon fiber handguard may be the way to go (its listed at 1.75 inches). Any other options I should be considering?

Thanks!

Since SBRs are illegal here you HAVE to perm attach the can to the barrel.

No, he's talking about building up a 5.56 version of the tacsol sbx barrel.

so, he's got the SBR barrel with a sleeve perm attached to the end to bring it to 16"+. the can can screw onto the barrel inside the sleeve.

That's why he needs a big-ass rail to fit it all in, the can is 1.5" dia, so the sleeve will be around 1.75" dia...

OP- you could check out Spike's BAR, it's one of the widest I know about: http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/spikes-tactical-10-bar-rail-p-461.html

Don't want to hijack my own thread - I actually don't. Hence the permanetly attached sleeve similar to the SBX barrel. There are several gunsmiths in Washington building these barrels now. Think of it as a 11.5 inch barrel with a big ass flash suppressor/break welded to the front. PM me if you want to talk about it offline.

Sorry, my bad, I'd never heard of that before- probably the best idea yet to get around the Suppressed SBR conundrum here. How about just getting a LMT MRP and perming the can to the barrel?
