Looking at a new optic for a build/rebuild. Currently have a Noveske Recon 16" with UBR and GA SSA. I'll be mostly using this for semi-precision shooting from 100-300yds.

Choices are:
- NXS 1-4x24 Mil/Mil ZS
- NXS 2.5-10x32 Mil/Mil ZS

Normally, I'd go for the 2.5-10x, but I feel the x32 is too dang big and uses up too much rail space. I really wish they still made the 2.5-10x24 model.

I don't "have" to have a Nightforce scope, but I don't feel that there's any other scopes that meet their quality at the same price-point.

Opinions?

I'd go with the 1x4x24 Nightforce. If close to 300 yds is all you may shoot on a regular basis it should be great.

I have a 1.5x5 Mk4 Leupold with the SPR reticle on my Noveske 16" LoPro and shoot regularly out to 275 yds at a 8"x12" steel plate. No problem.

If I had it to do over again, and for the 200-300 dollar difference in cost, I'd get the Nightforce. To me, the glass on the Leupold is great, but the illuminated recticle really sucks. Except in low light.

If you're shooting within 400yd, then the 1-4x NXS will be fine (assuming you have good eyesight), I definitely wouldn't bother with the added weight of the x32mm scope body unless you're trying to print .5moa groups at the 350m mark or anything.

I voted for the 1-4, but after re-reading your post, you might like the 2.5x10 better for paper punching and precision work.

Size wise the 1-4 is much more compact, but in terms of weight, the 1-4 is a bit of a porker for its size as there's only a two ounce difference bwtween the two.

Why would you need an illuminated reticle in bright light?

Why would you need an illuminated reticle in bright light?

Easier and quicker to pickup on the target. Same premise as a Aimpoint or EoTech RDS.

I like pie:jester:. Great pole choice. Anyway I voted for - NXS 2.5-10x32 Mil/Mil ZS
