I have searched for hours and can not find anything that fits my needs/budget. I really like the Sotech Devil Rig, but I can't afford that price tag.

http://www.optactical.com/sotechdevilrig.html

I am looking for a good split front rig for a AR set up (black in color), that will hold 4-6 emags, a flashlight, and will play well with my Infidel war belt.

http://www.usgruntgear.com/inpawarbe.html

I am looking for a split front because the amount of time I spend sitting and prone. I keep my pistol, pistol mags, admin pouch and a dump pouch on my war belt. I don't plan on using this for any competitions, just assault courses and SHTF. Thank you for the help in advance.

-TAG makes a split front. I cant remember the name and NIPR wont let me on their website right now. Most of my gear is TAG and I dont have any complaints about them.

-Tactical Tailor has a split front that might be in your budget.

The MAV is a molle panel so you can add pouches and place them where ever you want to on the rig.

-And Ares Armor makes some good gear, when I was in their shop last they had a lightweight (500d) chest rig that was just mag pouches, 6 I believe, with molle strips on the front for mounting pouches.

Hope this helps. Maybe one of these guys will have what you are looking for.

I apologize I should have stated my budget. I am a college student and can afford about $100-$150(with some savings I can make it up to $200).
I have looked at the TT MAV, and it looks good, but I like the built in mag pouches with room for a second level of pouches via MOLLE/PALS. (for better or worse) The BCM 03 Modular Split Front Chest Harness looks good and the Original S.O.E 4 Mag MD Split Front Chest Rig. I think I am leaning towards the BCM 03 though. What are your thoughts?

I've got to recommend that you at least look into an EssTac Trim Bush Boar. Admittedly, I've never used the TT, OSOE or BCM rigs, but I believe the Boar series of rigs clearly has features that distinguish it from the pack.

Firstly its modular as hell. If you dont want a hydration carrier or pack on your back, you dont have to have one. If you want to get one down the road, EssTac makes one that will slap on without permanent modifications.

Secondly the modular design of the mag panels allows for use with various types of mags and weapons should you expand your armory down the road.

Most importantly to me, the integrated mag pouches can be run with EssTac KYWIs. Many people I've talked to about these are uninterested in them or find them to be a new gimmick and they generally just stick with shock cord retention straps or closed-top pouches. All I can say is that I own plenty of KYWIs and double KYWIs and I'm never going back. Retention and draw speed are simply unparalleled and regardless of whether your chest is where your primary reloads are coming from, I see no reason why they should not be quick to access and easy on reinsertion.

If you're interested in a Boar, I can only recommend a Trim Bush Boar, specifically. This is partially because I've only ever used the Trim variant, partially because it fits your price requirements well and partially because 4 mags in addition to some on the hip/thigh and in the gun ought to be plenty for even carbine classes.

I have never been employed by EssTac, just think their gear is brilliant stuff.

If price is the deciding factor you can always look at the TAG Phalanx Split Front Chest Rig. It only holds 4 mags but the price is very good. TAG makes an OK product. If that is not what you are looking for then I would look at the BCM 03 Modular Split Front Chest Harness and add a Blue Force Gear Ten-Speed Double Mag Pouch to bring you up to 6 mags. The EssTac Boar series is a VERY good rig. It might be more then you are looking for (I have had a Split front Bush Boar for about 5 years now and it is one of the best rigs I have owned) . After adding the Hydro pouch and stuff you are looking at about $300. If you are willing to spend that money you will not be disappointed in the EssTac rig.

I hate to be the odd man out but you did mention a student's budget.

for $39 the Military Surplus FLC http://store.colemans.com/cart/us-gi-molle-ii-fighting-load-carrier-flc-vest-p-2504.html?currency=USD is cheap, well made, and comes with enough pouches to allow you to tailor it to your needs (no one really needs all the pouches it comes with unless you're deployed)

now, no one is going to say that it is as suited to civilian purpose, or as cool as a commercial one you'd have to spend 4 times for, but it is very functional and does serve very well for occasional training and range trips.

the good thing about this is, it gives you a base of information to make judgements from. if you train enough to determine shortcomings and develop preferences, you'll have learned this at a fraction of the cost than if you had gotten something expensive and then determined it wasn't to your liking.

also, in training or at the range, you will meet a lot of people that are pretty much in the same boat you are in now and you would probably be able to recoup much if not all of your cost by selling it to them...

You can often find this brand on Ebay.

I can tell you that the Condor Gear is not good gear. It is cheaply made in China and will not hold up very well.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend gear like this or blackhawk or anything out of Cheaper Than Dirt either, but him being a student and having a low budget and only using it only for occasional training something like that might make sense for him.

What is it about the Devil Rig that you really like?

I am not a chest-rig guy. For me, if I am going to take the time to put on a vest, I might as well put a set of plates on as well, but that doesn't mean that they don't have their place. My personal opinion is that the Eagle FB chest rig is the most cost-efficient and cost-effective chest rig out there, with one impressive track record.

Now, if you want a split-front rig, it ain't gonna meet your requirements, but I would have to be very set on loadout to pass up on the deal.

BTW- have you looked at the Tactical Tailor 2-piece MAVs?

I think Midway or somebody has that rig for <$50 and I agree, for civilian use it is very hard to beat that FB.

(if we didn't have a new chest rig thread every 2 days we wouldn't have to keep re-posting this stuff, the midway link is in one of the other threads)

I have the bush boar, and can definitely recommend it 100%. Also, you can get the trim bush for a decent price ~$140

I bought a $90.00 BLACKHAWK! modular chest pouch for a 5 day carbine course at Blackwater and it worked great. I have used it in several other schools and competitions with no problems. It is low profile and has never got in the way for me in prone or sitting positions.

I whole heartedly recommend the Tactical Tailor MAV 2-piece.
If you can spill the extra cash, the split-front boar is the way to go!
