Hey all.

I was attempting to do some searches on this topic, but the search doesnt seem to be working, so up goes the thread in which I will ask a few questions.

1) What do your guns weigh? I am posting this up because I am in the midst of completing my first build. (Noveske recon) and it currently has a TA11F on it which is verging on the side of being too heavy (9+lbs) and too expensive. Post up your guns, with their optics, and overall weight.

2) I was thinking of switching over to bare iron sights, or a T1/M4s, but am I not wasting the accuracy of the barrel? What kinds of effective shots are you guys/gals making with your irons/red dots? My goal is to save as much weight/money as possible while still having an effective system. I love the TA11, but its heavy.

Crappy pic of my gun (without X300, BUIS): http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/9476/img1232dv.th.jpg (http://img31.imageshack.us/i/img1232dv.jpg/)

Thanks in advance.

Use the ORANGE SEARCH button at the top right of the web page. There are plenty of pics of various AR's in the picture area.

Thanks for the tip:p

BTW, I wasn't asking for pics, I was asking more for the rifle description, setup and weight. Pics are welcome though as a lot of picture threads don't go into weight.

I don't think the Aimpoint M4s is going to be that much lighter.

You chose a heavy stock and your forearm runs nearly to the end of the barrel.
What foreend are you running there, (it's hard to tell)?

Do you need to run the AVG? Would a handstop work for you?

Is this a stainless barrel?
If I remember correctly, stainless barrels weigh more that 4150 barrels.

I believe the Vltor uppers are also heavier than the standard forged upper.

If youre concerned about weight change your upper to a 16" M4 profile or Mid Lightweight barrel and run the MOE handguard, a MOE stock would be good as well. Thats gonna be a good way to save weight AND money if youre looking for saving money

Stainless barrels are heavier only because they're profiled thicker to hold up to heat.

Vltor uppers are forged, but the beefier construction isn't noticeable in my experience. I've held them stripped and assembled, and weight never crossed my mind.

if that's a SS barrel, then you've got the wrong option for "light weight" lol. At that point, you might want to just get a good bi-pod or a grip pod or something and use it as more of an spr.

9 pounds, 7 ounces unloaded without can.

TA31F, Troy front and rear, Larue 12" rail, MIAD pistol grip with 2 CR123's, 9 XTM panels with ladder rail covers covering the rest of the rails, E2E with TNVC 200 lumen light head in Vltor scout mount, VTAC 2 point padded sling, and a CTR.

ETA: Keep your rifle the way it is right now unless you somehow see doing a different type of mission with that rifle. For being able to heft the rifle easier, work out your shoulder more. Straight arm lifts, side barbell lifts, overhead lifts, and such. You will look skinnier as your shoulders get bigger and you will be able to shoot the rifle better. Win win.

Yes, I know they are forged.
My point was that the OP chose the heaviest of components for his build.

Gals, what gals? Quit the politically correct garbage man. One of the reasons I joined this forum is cause I was told it was the M4 enthusiast chapter of "The He Man Woman Haters Club". This forum and my local range are the only escapes I have from "GALS" (my wife to be exact) in my life.

Here's mine, an NJ legal Colt MT6400C. Not sure of the weight. I don't have a scale handy. But it's borderline too heavy with the Millett DMS. I have a DD Omega rail, Troy buis, Streamlight tlr-1 light, and large BCM Gunfighter. I might replace the Millett with an Aimpoint T1 after seeing the DD M4 torture test.

10 lbs

14.5" Noveske w/ VIS, EOTech XPS 2-0 in Larue Mount, Streamlight PolyTac in Larue Mount, Pmag (loaded), Tango Down Stubby VG (holding extra CR123), Magpul MBUS, Magpul CTR and MIAD (holding extra bolt), Vickers AA padded sling.

Weight has never bothered me and I have had it on for full day classes...like another guy said, do some pushups and don't be a weight weeny :p (you should be doing that anyways)

HMAC, that is pretty much exactly what I want to build for my wife...very nice!

Lol thats my reply for almost everything, Our 8 year old whines sometimes I tell him do push-ups. I almost prefer a heavier rifle over light one. My 30-06 weighs around 8 pounds. That thing is a beast and it kicks your ass.

That's the first time i've heard a grown man call a rifle "cute" :jester: :D

Is that rifle's furniture in foliage? Man that must be some super bright lighting, because it has that "mint green" look going. I like it though.

Mine is a 14.5" BCM upper, LMT Lower with UBR stock. Aimpoint T1, Surefire X300, Troy Buis and VCAS Padded sling. Total weight is about 9.5lbs. The weight doesn't bother me a bit. The sling really soaks up the weight

This really is the key...I dealt with a Magpul MS2 for a couple years with my loadout untill I just recently switched to my Vickers Padded AA/DIY (Magpul inspired) sling that I put together...

I think it's somewhat subjective as many members weigh their weapons differently. Some might show a weapon without optics, sling, or flashlight or any combination of these items. Some show them with everything. As a comparison I weighed 4 carbines. All had optics, lights, and BFG slings with QD's. I try to weigh them as carried less magazine.

1) 14.5 BCM lightweight middie, permed Battlecomp, Troy exteme 11", Scoutlight, T-1, CTR, Troy sights, Tango Down grip. 7.20lbs.

2) 16 LW middie DD, Battlecomp, 13" troy extreme, TA44, MiniScout, CTR, Troy sights, TD grip. 7.43lbs,

3) 14.5 Centurion LW permed BC, 13" Troy rail, mini scout, T-1, CTR, Troy sights, TD grip. 7.38lbs.

4) 14.5 BCM middie, permed A-2ext, T-1, CTR, FSB, Troy rear sight, MOE handguards, TD grip, G-2 light, Viking light mount, 7.41lbs.

I've never really paid much attention to the weight. Even fully dressed out, AR's are still light IMO. Now my bolt gun with an AI chassis, bipod, steel rings & base, & NF scope is about 15 lbs. It's slightly on the heavy side but still manageable.
