I spoke with Wes at MSTN the other day about building a Recce. He used to build original clones of the 16" carbine-gas barrels, then later switched to mid-lengths, and then again to using the intermediate-length gas system. This setup sounds intriguing, similar to a rifle-length gas system on a 18" rifle.

Does anyone have any experience with such a setup?

Yup. I got my Noveske 16" w/ int gas from him. Very similar to the SR15E3 gas system; I think there is a .4" difference there.

I think it's closer to running a mid length on a 14.5", but without the annoying pinned muzzle device.

It ran the best with an carbine or H buffer. Very sweet setup with a Battlecomp 2.0.

As bp7178 said, it is very similar to the KAC E3. My KAC was very smooth with minimal felt recoil.
