I picked up 2 double star lowers and am looking to build up 2 M4's for my twin daughters. I need ideas for parts to put in them to give them cheap starter rifles that have possibilities for later.

Not sure I'll want "cheap" as the starting point for rifles for MY twin boys in a few years, but I'd strongly recommend G&R Tactical LPK's. As AFFORDABLE as some cheaply MADE LPK's, but the parts are of a better quality! You won't regret it.

Keep it simple so they can learn the basics. +1 on the g&r lpk. Maybe a light weight barrel for smaller shooters.

Palmetto State Armory has lower build kits starting at $100.
They include everything needed to complete a lower.
I can't comment on the quality.

+1 G&R.
My first pick.

If they're out, try this:

As others suggest, don't go cheap on this - Those few dollars saved are not worth the compromise in quality.

Although I generally prefer the G&R LPK (I have bought four of them) in your case I would suggest Daniel Defense, because it includes an A2 grip, which is probably perfect for younger shooters, and a MOE trigger guard, all for $65 at Smartgunner (expect some delay in shipping) or $75-80 elsewhere, which is slightly less than the G&R LPK with the FCG and trigger guard but still without any grip.

On the buttstock, BCM has a clearance of their gen 1 M4 stock for only $65 complete with a milspec tube, spring and buffer, etc.:

Really can't beat that deal with a stick. Cheap junky commercial M4 stocks usually sell for the same or more as complete kits.

For the upper, I would look at options from Palmetto State Armory and Spike's Tactical; neither is likely as good as BCM, DD etc., but claimed specs are considerably better than other inexpensive uppers, and at worst should be the same or better than brands like DPMS, Del-Ton, RRA, etc.

Here's a $400 complete upper with a 14.5" and pinned flash hider:

Again, hard to beat that deal!

These are price-conscious recommendations and I would suggest different brands/models if price were no object.

I'll agree. DD LPK's and BCM Mil tube M4 stocks. Stocks can easily be upgraded in the future.

Agreed on the suggestions listed above, DD and G&R are both regarded as high quality LPK's.

IMO you need to be buying for value rather than price.

Does anyone know if the G&R kits still come with LMT selectors and bolt catches? It used to say so in the description but now it doesn''t mention them. That was a really nice touch IMO. The LMT bolt catch has a lot nicer profile than any others I've seen.

Yes they do.
