60 and 100 rnds that sound like a lot. That would really take away from a light rifle.

True, but if you are in a fixed location and want a lot of rounds, it is a good choice.

I'm willing to carry the weight burden of a loaded gun.

It would be nice to have one in the rifle on perimmiter security. I had a BETA MAG we used to use as a back up for the turret gunner if his weapon went down or what ever. If the Surfire proves its self GTG it will be a much better choice than tha BETA as it was bulky as hell.

When zed's are shambling towards you........ you won't care what your gun weighs.........

Or like Grant's post if your in a fixed position..... but mine sounds more fun.

A lot. I might buy one 100rd mag, but really think the 60rd mags are where its at.

12.2" long.

12.2" long.

sounds like it might serve a good pupose in fixed position like grant said but manuverability will suffer too. I might get one just to have you never know when you will need it ! Ive carried the extra weight once or twice not a fan

ounces = pounds...... pounds = pain

Agreed. To me, it makes no sense as a general issue item, but might serve in a specialized role. I would not run one in a patrol carbine or during a multi day class.

+1
Static, fixed, or on a vehicle that can carry the weight for you 'til needed would be nice.

Maneuvering and toting all day long, not so much.
Not that it would be significantly different in weight than multiple mags of course, but the location of the mass is what would hurt.

Might not seem like much, but if you've got 6~8 30rd mags on hand right now to use as backup, it's gonna carry/balance/load distribute a lot better than three 60rd or two 100rd lumps.
I'd rather fire and maneuver with weight distributed around my body as opposed to carrying a cinderblock on each hip.

Another consideration:
If a 60~100rd mag fails in say the first 20 rounds, you end up dumping 40~60 rounds with the mag just to get a fresh one in that works.
Do the same with a 30rd mag and you only lose 10. Do it with a 20rd mag and it falls into one of those 'need to reload anyway' situations.

There was a Surefire rep at Silver Bullet Firearms in Michigan last week. My good friend, "High Tower" (here on M4C) got to shoot the 60 rounder IIRC.
The rep told him end of June-ish.

Oh, and he like it a lot.

Meh, I'll stick with my 30 rounders for now. I doubt many will be humping very many of these mags but the jury is still out until it is used.

Yep, the one I ran worked very well. I believe prices will be in the neighborhood of $80 - $120, but I am in the field right now so I am not 100% on that. The rep said they would start shipping the end of june.

The 60rd is $129., the 100rd is $179 all per SF's WS.
