Phosphate finish ?

I have not been shooting my AR's lately and they are both still in pristine condition. Every month I take them out of the safe and wipe them down with CLP. Can I actually rub the finish off like I did with a blued shotgun when I was kid? or is just good preventative maitinance? das:confused:

Dude... I've had ARs sit in my safe for 5 years unfired. I had to dust them once a year. You don't need to do a monthly rub down.

That said... "rubbing one out" won't damage the finish.

Do you live in a humid environment or something? If so, it wouldn't hurt to keep a thin film of CLP inside the barrel and on the bolt assembly. As far as the finish is concerned, you're good to go. You'd actually have to try in order to wear it off of your rifle(s).
