View Full Version : At what point do you know
That your rifle is under gassed?
Running the A2 stock and buffer with mil spec ammunition 18" barrel rifle gas system, Noveske Switchblock. Colt 1/2 moon carrier.
Firing suppressed (AAC SPR-M4) the rifle cycles fine and ejects to the 5 o'clock position. The rifle severely short strokes when unsuppressed.
Port size is apparently .086" area.
Can you give us more information? What is "milspec" ammunition? Who makes the barrel? Was the Switchblock installed by Noveske or was it purchased and installed?
It's all in the details......

Switchblock is the clamp on version and the port is aligned.
You still didn't answer the barrel question. Since I don't know you or your knowledge of the AR I have to ask if you are using a rifle buffer and spring.

If you are correct about your port size that is your problem.

Todd, Thank you, I have sent your company an email with this question directly but did not receive a response.
Iraq' The complete lower is of Colt manufacture, including the A2 stock buffer and spring.
As to the barrel question, it is from one of the premier top tier cut rifled shops in the state of Wisconsin.
Gas port might need to go to .090". That's what an instructor I've had used on a 16" Colt rifle gas system he made.
I think Todd nailed it. Let us know what happens.

Yes, so what would be the correct recommended normal port size for this configuration... Some help here please.

The port size for our 18" is .086 but our gas system is a intermediet.
The rifle length 18" port size would be closer to .1065". We have "not" done a rifle length 18" for a very long time.
Kindly, Joel~

Port enlarged using a carbide drill size #40 which equates to a .098" bit.
Rifle ran with 5 different loads 100 % in all configurations.
Appreciate all efforts, behind the scenes :D and otherwise. ;)
That's good to hear. What specific ammo did you shoot?

Began with the R-P 55 FMJ green box turd, went to BH 77 match, and an assortment of handloads with 55 Nosler BT's, and 55 Hornady FMJ's , and Sierra 77 SMK's with this load.
