Hi from the U.K.

I am about to put together a straight pull AR15, please don't laugh; it is all that we are can have in the U.K.
I am going to buy the receiver top and bottom from one of the few guys in England who specialise in this and he is probably the best,(http://www.southern-gun.co.uk/) however he is charging double and a bit more on his furniture and sights etc so I am planning a visit to the USA to pick some stuff up. The money I save will pay for my wife and me to have a holiday-which will keep her happy!

Can anyone recommend a shop which has a very good range of AR15 furniture and maybe also a Nightforce /Leupold dealer? Being able to visit a local range and have some fun with the real deal would be on my wish list too.

As this will be the purpose for the trip the location is not an issue.

Any comments on customs also greatly appreciated! I purchase from Brownells so do not see a problem on travelling with just furniture and sights?

Anyone interested with talking guns with a shooter in the U.K. give me a shout

Dave

You are making the best of a terrible situation.

I would contact C4IGrant, he's an administrator for the site and his shop is in Ohio. I'm sure he could hook you up.

As far as US Customs, there are certain electronic sights that the US State Dept. does not want to leave the US, I know for instance that the Leupold CQT was on the list for a while, but I don't know of any stocks or rails that would be prohibited.

Best of luck!

Cheers!

What city, state or area of the USA will you be visiting? That may help us to help you.:)

And I almost forgot, if you will be in VA or the Washington DC "area", then Got_M4 can also help you, he's in Northern VA.

DPMS used to make a pump action AR if I am not mistaken.

As the reason for the trip is to buy parts then I am open to all of the USA, I have not checked air fares yet, but immagine that the eastern side is cheaper to fly to from the UK!

I have not seen any pumps (only shotguns) over here so that leads me to think that we are not alowed them, although underlevers are?

Its a strange system that has many odities.

In that case, that leaves it wide open. However, I second what Templar said about Robb (gotm4 here) at Virginia Arms. Virginia Arms is located in Manassas, Virginia, which is about 35 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. Virginia is a very "firearms friendly" state. Florida might also be good, but I have no suggestions for it. The nearest international airport is Washington Dulles. The other two international airports within driving distance are Reagan National, and the Baltimore-Washington International Airport known as BWI.

I'll point gotm4 to your thread.

The member cmshoot at http://www.snipersparadise.com/sniperchat/ owns a shop and he is a nice guy you could talk to him.

Shoot Straight in Orlando is a pretty big store. http://www.shootstraightonline.com/ They could help you but they don't have any AR's you could shoot while here.

East Orange Shooting Sports is a smaller store but has a real good owner and gunsmith. He can probably order you anything you want. http://www.eastorangess.com/

If you are looking for basic stuff I think just about any gun store could get it for you.

Will Midway USA not ship over there?

The thing is, is that we can sell you all the AR furniture etc, but I don't know if it's legal for you to leave the airport here with it. You may only have to declare it for tariffs on the England side (I don't know).

I don't fancy arguing with your airport guys! especialy as time would be against me catching a flight etc
Brownells have been good at sending stuff over to me in the past, I might just go through them, It would have been nice to have handled the stuff before buying, as pictures can not fully replace holding the item and getting a true idea of size/weight etc

Thanks to all who took the trouble to respond to my post
