I removed the FSB from the barrel today and I noticed carbon build up on the gas tube right behind the FSB. The carbon extends about .5 inch back on the tube. Is this normal?

Not uncommon Outrider.
Yes. It occurs on all of my ARs.
Not only is it common, it's almost expected. Perfectly normal.

Cool. I thought maybe the FSB was leaking gas. Thanks guys.

It is leaking gas. Just a little... like almost every AR.
Is it advised to clean this up or is it harmless? I ask because I took my rail off a week or so ago and noticed the same thing, but "out of sight, out of mind" took over and I forgot all about it.

Carbon build up = gas leak. I'm a dumbass, haha. I was thinking gas leak in terms of something might be wrong or out of spec.

It's harmless. There's not moving parts there to be affected by this.
