Im looking to pick up an hk p30 in .40 but not sure which variant to get. For those of you who have one, I was wondering which variant you picked and why. Thanks.

It is all going to be user preference.
Some people are completely comfortable with DA/SA and use the V3.
Some people like the constant DAO trigger of the LEM.
Now, you can get with a safety and carry condition 1.

I currently have a LEM, but when I pick up another will get the one with a safety and carry condition 1 as I hate the LEM.

I just picked up a P30 v1 lem (light). I only have one pistol that has a thumb safety, a Nighthawk 1911, which I usually only use for range time. So just to try to stay uniform I didnt want any thumb safeties on the HK. I went with the light lem which breaks around 4.5 well, just because I wanted the lightest option.:D

I bought the HK P30 Long Slide, with manual safety and de-coker.

The long slide tames the 40 very nicely, love the manual safety like my 1911's. The DA/SA is pretty good. Very Happy with the gun.

I have a P30s. I started shooting with revolvers and then sa/da so i'm used to that and train with the heavy first pull. USP's is where i started with HK along time ago and still favor them. The LEM is either love or hate. Many younger fairly new to guns love the LEM but i'll stay old school.

I would sure try a LEM and never buy blind on something so different, good luck

I have a P30s in 40, and really like carrying and shooting from condition 1. Have tried the LEM but did not like it. The trigger seems better out of the box than either my HK45 or my 45c.

This may be a dumb question but what exactly is condition 1?

Hammer back, safety on.

ETA: Here is an article for you, should explain carry conditions.

i have a p30 9mm v3. If i could do it all over again, i'd get the p30S 9mm. If i could carry, i'd carry it condition 1 cocked and locked safety on. People who like the consistant trigger pull will get it with a p30S because it will already be cocked and you'll never have to worry about that first DA trigger pull. Just need to remember to flip the safety off. Which can easily be done with training. Especially if you're trained already with a 1911.

If you ride the thumb safety, 1911 style, the position/shape of the P30/S safety can be rough on the inside of your thumb with the .40.

I carry the P30 V3 with no safety. While I really like the simplicity and I shoot the DA/SA just fine, my next P30 will definitely have a safety as I would prefer to be able to carry it cocked and locked.

I have a 9mm P30 L V3. I've been shooting Sigs and revolvers for many years, so I'm very comfortable with this platform.

BTW, I think you'll be very pleased with your P30. They are very fine handguns regardless of variant. :)

My next purchase is going to be a P30L w/ safety. I think the P30 is the best shooting most refined 9mm/40SW combat handgun to date.

I usually carry a 3" 1911, cocked and locked, so I guess I'm leaning more towards the one with the safety. How is the trigger on these?

I own a P30L 9mm V3 it's been perfect to this day and it hasn't missed a beat. The more you shoot this gun the better the trigger gets I have about 15,000 rounds on this gun and the trigger feels much better than it did when it came out of the box.

On Da/sa I'm perfectly comfortable carrying this gun in DA. I've shoot it so much that the DA pull is second nature for me.
