Have you guys seen the new Eagle Industries FB style chest rig? I cannot post a picture because I've only seen the one posted by Mr. Lennet over on 10-8. This looks like exactly the rig I've been looking for. It is similar to the Eagle Paul Howe rig, but only comes from the factory with three FB pouches installed in the center. This leaves PALS webbing on both sides for any other pouches you would like to carry. Now I can have a simple rig with the FB pouches I prefer and still have room to set-up the rest of the rig to my liking.

I wonder when Triad will get these in stock?

Eagle has a few new things coming out that I have to get in stock. Unfortunately, for some of them, I can't order until 8/1/06.:( That's OK, though. Eagle certainly does try to stay abreast of the needs of the end users, and that totally outweighs the wait times, etc...

You do realize that today is 8/14/06, correct?;)

Is this the vest?

http://www.skdtac.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=36

I just bought one July 26th. I love this thing. I meant to post a review, but work has been getting in the way.

I was under the impression that SKD was the only distributor of this rig.

Also a review can be found here under 2nd line gear, Part 2.

Not the same vest. It has three open top/kydex pouches for a single AR mag, then pals webbing on either side of them.

I thought it was a really nice setup, but I still prefer a 2 piece Mav for a non-armored rig.

I've been eyeballing one of these as well. I saw something about 8/8 over there or something. Of course, not being able to post there... LOL.

I think one of the 2x4's would work out great on this rig.

Guess I better go look at this chit, as I need a trunk rig ;)

I agree. Been through that discussion on 10-8. It has three vertical channels and the 2X4 takes up three vertical channels (although it hangs over a lot.) It should work.

Sub, I saw that :o

Dunno, the SKD Paul Howe rig looks nice too. Dinger, have you seen one in person?

Yes, I have been using the Howe rig for the past few months. It is great, but I think this rig with a 2x4 would be "Better" yet still light & relatively inexpensive. This set-up would also place the pistol mag pouches off to the weak side instead of right in the middle. I’m assuming this would make prone shooting a little more comfortable. Not a lot, but noticeable. I prefer FB pouches whenever possible nowadays anyway.

The only picture I've seen was posted by Ben Lennet over on the 10-8 thread. Since he is a mod on M4carbine also, maybe we can poke him enough to post it on M4C.

2x4? What is that?

I think this is the best format for a unarmored "grab n go" kind of rig. Open top, kydex insert, single mag pouches. Again, Eagle is right in there with their M-4 FB Chest Rig. It is built on the same PH Universal rig base, but features much better mag retention. You can argue all day about how many mags should you run. Eagle has gone with 3, which is fine. Others have gone with 4-6 mags. Bearing in mind that with PALS webbing any one of these rigs can be instantly doubled.
It is interesting to note that even is this day and age when body armor is becoming required equipment, that these rigs still sell so well.

2x4 on the right, pistol mags on the left eh?

Rob, if ya hadn't got yourself canked you'd know these things :o Seriously thou, its an Eagle pouch that holds 2 M4 mags and 4 pistol mags.

ETA: Nevermind I'm on crack today. Pistol mags would obviously be on the weak side. I guess I was assuming you'd run EXTRA pistol mags in seperate pouches.

I have been running one of these for a few months now (a prototype)
Diz, you are correct in that it is amazing how well this type of rig sells even in the days of mandatory armor.
It is a minimalist set up, and though some may question why only 3 mags, not everyone will have to fight off zombies, motorcycle gang small town invaders, UN troops dropping through the chem trails and the like.
The added webbing gives you an option to add other mission essential equipment, but won't allow you to overload the thing with stuff...
It is an excellent grab and go thing, and i'll broadly assume that i'll start seeing them in class.

The Eagle (Paul Howe) Universal chest rig has radio pouches on the sides that may or may not be useful to some. The SKD version replaced these pouches with two channels of PALs webbing, I assume to provide more flexibility. Choices for two-row-wide pouches are limited, but then it's not mandatory that one add any pouches at all. Some have indicated on other forums that they were less than completely satisfied with the mag retention of the carbine pouches. Some have modified the pouches with shock-cord retainers or similar. The pistol-mag pouches appear to have been sized for double-stacks, and are a bit loose for single-stack mags. Some have also modded the flaps on the pistol-mag pouches by splitting them from doubles for single retention.

I think the FB version is a logical step. The retention issues should be well addressed by the kydex liners. Providing three pouches instead of four-wide allows for additional PALs slots on the sides, which allows more flexibility in choosing blow-out-kit pouches and the like. Three mags should be more than plenty for a grab-and-go rig, while the PALs webbing across the front will allow the addition of more pouches for training and zombie invasions. One could also add pistol-mag/knife/multiool pouches etc. as appropriate if not carried on a first-line rig.

I think you have it backwards.

The SKD/Paul Howe rig does not have radio pouches. I'm assuming it was his idea to dump the radio pouches and add the pistol mag pouches to the standard Eagle universal chest rig.

Aubrey

I often do things backwards, but this is from SKD's site (http://skdtac.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=36):
"Due to the high demand for the excellent Eagle Universal Chest Rig, designed by Paul Howe, we contacted Eagle to create a custom modification for us in early 2005. The plan was simple- remove the very user-specific MBITR pouches and put 4 rows of modular PALS webbing instead. This modification extended the reach of this excellent design to users who do not use the MBITR radio, and allowed for additional flexibility while staying well under $100..."

BTW, I have the SKD version and think it's a great value, but I'll either be modifying the carbine-mag pouches for retention or trading it for the FB-style rig. Ben has been busy and has been introducing some really impressive new gear in the LE line.

Gentlemen:

I am glad that you guys are happy with the new LE Line and the new FB Chest Rig. I am unable to post new pics at the present time, but here is a link to a post with pics of it. http://www.10-8forums.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=28043&an=0&page=1#28043

The only thing SKD modified on the UTV is the PALS webbing on the side. The original PHUTV had pistol mags on the front as well. You are somewhat limited in what you can attach based on only having two rows of PALS webbing, but that is why everyone has options on what to utilize.

2x4 is the street name for the Eagle MP2/M4-4/45-FB1-MS pouch. It will hold two M4 mags, and 4 45/220 mags. All of the mags are held in place with the kydex inserts and have webbing flaps for when extra security is needed.

Only one place to get them as far as I know:D

That's EXACTLY what I hoped for when I asked if the 2X4 would fit. I'm glad it works for the LEO's for whom it was designed; it will work even better for me and mine!

Even Harv would come to the line with 5 + 1 mags.:D

Off to sell some stuff and order a few.
