Yes...It most certainly did. :)

It's a .30-30

The wood (especially the buttstock) appears to have a dark, almost slightly burnt finish. Is this how the gun came or part of the work? Either way, it's definetely unique.

It is part of the work thanks for the complement.

What's the barrel length? It looks shortened somewhat.

I cut it to 16.5 inches it just makes the gun so nice and handy.

I love it!!

Is the LOP shortened? Looks like 12.5 to 13".

You are good 12.5 thanks.

You are good 12.5 thanks.

I have a soft spot for Marlins.

That 336 was spec'ed out to perfection, and the work looks great!!

I am curious what type of glass will be mounted on it.

It will be up to the customer.
The Leupold scout scopes do a good job on them.
I like the RMR and aimpoint H1 on them as well.

I would call it my privilege to do a rifle for you.
It is nice to know a rifle goes to someone that knows his way around one.

Thanks! I'm very excited to get this one back. I have a lot of pretty nice stuff, but I can already tell that this rifle is going to be my new favorite, and definitely one of the centerpieces of my collection.

As for glass, I have a Leupold scout in Warne QD rings in the safe and ready to go.

Well Mr. Smith I dont know if I should be mad at you or thank you.

Seeing this post prompted me to dust mine off and take it to the range as I have not shot it in 15+ years.

Loaded it up and fired 5 rounds, loaded another 5 and cycled the lever and it broke :( the loading gate broke off and wedged the shell lifter in place.

Took it home and tore it all the way down to the last screw and pin. Going to completely refinish the metal and wood and make it look factory new.

So at any rate thanks for getting me started on another project I dont really have time for lol.

been tossing the idea of using a Lever Gun as a "Truck gun" around for awhile, and I think this just sold me on the idea. I may be in contact with you in the next month or so, depending on financial situation with work being very very slow.

Outstanding Work !

I think something like that with a T-1 micro would be the shit for a truck gun.

BEAUTIFUL rifle. I'm a fan of the "cowboy assault rifle" concept, and that's the best example I've seen. I need to drive up the road and bring a rifle to you one of these days...

I think a Scout scope would be perfect. 2.5x to give you magnification, but still low enough to not slow you down much

Very nice work. I have only been to your shop one time, however I could see you do first class work. I still have that special STI you sold me. I would still like you to build a pistol for me when I can round up the cash.

I have developed a keen interest in the 7.62 x 39 cartridge over the last year, so much so that I had begun to consider a Mini 30 to hunt with as a match to an AK rifle I have grown quite fond of. Thankfully I saw this before I spent the money on Ruger's stainless steel high capacity auto loading shoulder fired 30 caliber shotgun.

the Marlin "support" person indicated that the Marlin 336Y (youth) was probably not going to be manufactured until fall! Was this guy a typical support person or was he right?

Mr. Smith,

Do you care to share how you worked on the stock set to make it look like that or is it a trade secret of yours?

Did you coat the metal in something or is it the stock bluing?

What did you do to the XS front sight? I love the full length pic rail on it...looks really good!

The gun is a custom color cera-kote, silver solder sights on, and use green in the front sight.

Stock work takes too long to do it is a labor of love with 4 types of stain.

Gotta just add to this post that MAN I LIKE THIS GUN!!

Does the rail interfere with the sight picture at all?

Just curious - What are the ballistics like on a 16" barreled .30-30?

The sights are clean and clear as to the 16inch.
I have not spent time with the chronograph to give # but I have put down 200 lb dear with one.
The only down fall I can see with a 16.5 is that all your other lever guns don’t get shot any more after you have one.

I know this is an old thread but I have been playing with a 16" 336 lately and I ran across this little gem of a rifle. There is something pretty practical yet fun about these little carbines
