A 12 gauge.....well this isnt M4 or Ar shooting, but my last thread really sparked a lively discussion about when to start teaching and what to teach with. The AR/M4 is a great platform to start to teach high power rifle because it is pretty cheap to shoot ammo wise, and has almost no recoil. But depending on your child, you can, once the basics of firearms handling are grasped, start to introduce heavier recoil firearms. My daughter shoots trap, Remington 1100, and has learned to hold the shotgun so recoil isnt an issue. Here she is with a Ithaca model 37 my Dad bought me when I was a kid. It kicks LIKE A MULE!!! But she handle it.

For me the biggest issue is understanding the maturity level of your kid, knowing if they can concentrate and pay attention, and since they are kids, when they are starting to loose concentration. The other issue is eye and ear protection. The noise will really make them nervous. Enjoy!!!
