What, if I may ask, is the reasoning behind not letting a member post in GD until 200 posts? Is it the secret porn forum or something?

The overall quality of members who post worthwhile material in technical forums, in order to accumulate 200 posts, seems to surpass those who come only to post in general discussion.

Said another way....

Historically, those users only interested in our general discussion forum seem to adversely effect our signal to noise ratio.

Well, you guys know your forum, it just seemed odd to me.

I guess with 40+k members, you see things I'll never see with 5k members.

We may also have completely different mission statements, or requirements, for the forums.

Our other option was to completely remove general discussion. We compromised on this solution, and it seems to work perfectly for us.

For pennies a day, one can buy a Sponsoring Membership and aquire instant access to said forum...
(instant being after management receives check and grants it to ya :p)
